You found any good books on SAD oliver? I just don't know enough on how to incorporate them. I imagine that structure does not fit the typical rank and file like a traditional military unit. Those guys would be GS I suppose, and could very well have a retired Sgt Major leading a team of ex-officers. Yet in reality that ex sgt Major is a GS 15 and therefore more or less equivalent to a Colonel.
If you have a SkyPatrol Subteam what do you do with the rest of the Airborne guys? I like to use the name Sky Patrol still, but I've added CrazyLegs, Airborne, Starduster, Ripcord, FreeFall, and Sneak Peak. Now it's a dozen man team. Who is going in your Ghost squad? SAD is pretty hard to get a handle on... I haven't been able to find a book on them yet. Wikipedia offers a good article on them. I have met one SAD operator who was introduced to me by a friend who works with the Agency. I really can't say more than that, but the individual I met was great and was as informative as he could be when I asked him some questions. Basically, they work sort of like Delta Force but without the constraints of the DOD and under the direct control of CIA - which means they are tasked by the President directly (or at least they can be). They don't do the same Counter Terrorism Missions as Delta like Airplane Rescues and things like that, but much of their training overlaps. SAD Operators are recruited from Military Special Ops (no surprize), and mainly from Delta and DEVGRU. The individual I spoke with had been recruited from Marine Force Recon. Basically what he told me was that he sort of missed the Corps, because SAD doesn't offer the same level of closeness with it's members. You're right about the "GS" system. It's about seniority. Billy Waugh is a guy you should read about. The man is simply amazing. He was like a Sgt. Major, but when he went over to the Agency, he crosses over to the GS system and now I'm sure he's at Least a GS-15, if not an SAS (That's CIA for General). Once you're in the SAD, rank and promotion are about experience with SAD. The military is mainly just training for what comes next. However, if a Special Forces Captain came over to SAD they might start him off a little higher on the GS scale than they do an SCO who comes over. They are "civilians", and so they live separately - just like everyone else at CIA. There's no SAD Barracks in Washington or anything. When there's a mission or required training, they are assembled, but they never really get to know the other operators on a very personal level. This is intentional. SAD is our main Black Ops force for prohibited missions. They go where it's illegal to be. If the mission is compromised, or if one of them is captured, there's no cavalry coming to help them - they are completely written off. So the less they know about each other the better. They basically work in 6-14 man teams depending on the Mission parameters. They get whatever weapons and equipment they want. The gentleman I spoke with said the guys he worked with generally used the H&K rifles, as opposed to the standard M-4's the military uses... the H&K's fired the same rounds (5.56 and 7.62 respectively) but were a much higher quality assault rifle. When you're all alone out there, your rifle better work. No questions. For side arms they carried Glocks or H&K .45's with Silencers. If they need anything else, they get it. Limitless budget: it's the CIA, after all. I use my Sky Patrol as a deep insertion, Airborne LRRP unit, or even a Combat Control/ParaRescue Unit. Sky Patrol falls under my G.I. Joe Special Operations Command (G-SOC) My other airborne soldiers (Sgt. Airborne, Rip Cord, Free Fall) are part of my Regular Joe Army - they are part of the Ranger Detachment, and basically do the same Job that Sky Patrol does, except they do it for the Regular Joe Army. So, to be more clear, if G-SOC is the Spearhead of all my Joe Forces, Sky Patrol is the Point of the Spear. They're out doing Recon way forward of the lines. The other/regular Airborne Unit is conducting similar missions on a smaller scale for the regular Joe Army... sort of like how the 101st and 82nd Division each have LRSC (LRRP) units that function for their own divisions. The Rangers do that kind of work for the Whole Army... I hope I'm being clear. Crazy Legs is in Night Force, and thus can coordinate with Sky Patrol or the Regular Airborne Joes as needed. Flint is also qualified as a HALO Paratrooper (Battle Corps), so he and Crazy Legs might jump in together for Night Force. Ghost Squad is a special prototype/midnight run of the Night Force 6 pack TRU did several years ago... it includes alternate paint scheme of all the characters from that set, including "Night Force Tracker"... they evidently switched the paint to make him Action Man just prior to final production. I use them as a SAD unit, commanded by Claymore... and Low-Light (version 2) often shows up to help. "Night Force Tracker" is the pride of my collection. I don't know anyone else who has one, allegedly there were less than 50 of these prototype sets produced. I've posted a few pics of them before, but if you'll check out my profile page, you'll see a picture of "Ghost Squad Flint" from that set. They all sort of match him. Flint is the field commander of Ghost Squad because no Officer could do those missions... plausible deniability and all that.

The Rangers make up the Delta Teams. The SEaLs are their own team and the Marine Force Recon is their own.
So the Rangers, SAS and guys like Flint make up the Delta Teams. I've made some guys into Rangers that maybe weren't but should have been: Airborne, Spearhead, Ripcord. I use Shipwreck on the VBSS unit.

Falcon and Claymore don't run teams. They're out in the field all the time (all the Special Forces guys are) working with the locals, etc..

Has anyone sort of seen the resemblance of the picture on Hollow-Points filecard:
YOJOE.COM | Filecard Gallery - Built to Rule Hollow Point And Comic Pack Rock'n'Roll? YOJOE.COM | Ssgt. Rock 'n Roll. I've tried to upgrade who I can. I'm hoping for a V2 Rock'Roll in the 25th line so I can have the two 25th Rock'n'rolls without them looking too much alike. Last edited by Loose Cannon; 04-13-2009 at 03:27 PM.. |

I'm just throwing all the SpecialOps Guys out there. Oliver's team has only one Seal, no Force Recon. Both of which I consider better trained than the typical Ranger. (My Shipwreck is a SEAL). I didn't even try to list all the Rangers. I almost feel like they should function as their own unit, with maybe a few of them being placed on some of the more elite teams to fill holes. Yet separate from the Alpha team like you may be using. (The regular Infantry, Armor, Artillery) I suppose regular Infantry means "Green Shirt"
For the most part, all my Rangers who aren't affiliated with another Sub-Team are in one unit led by Grid-Iron. Starduster, Sneak-Peak, Side Track, Free Fall, etc... all the unaffiliated Rangers are in a Ranger Company that basically functions and the Special Operations contingent for my Regular Joe Army. They sort of bridge the gap between conventional and special operations forces.
