Because Marvel Comics already had the copyright on a Ghost Rider name used in comics, they could not use the name in the G.I. Joe comic.

It's a joke. There's an urban legend that if you play a Beatles song backwards (one of Lennon's, can't remember which one) it says "paul is dead", also heard there's another one that says "turn me on dead man".

Battle of Washington is in issue #16-17 of the original Marvel run of G.I. Joe... however the battle is much more epic in scope in my mind then it was in the comic.
Gung-Ho heads up the Special Missions Team... maybe I might change it so there is 3 and 3 in each squad instead of just a list of SM Team members... and I think of doc as more the "in house" Medic inside the PITT then a battlefield player however he can join a mission so he is part of the SM team... hmmm... maybe I should change it so it is two squads of 3. I kinda see the team base squad set up as Fire Team One and Weapons Team One Operatives (The Original Team Members) are the 1st Squad and FT2 and WT2 are the 2nd Squad they tend not to mix unless a situation calls for both squads to go into battle... and that is why the exports of team two are never shown in the G.I. Joe Comic- I guess they just didn't have as glamorous missions as the original team so they where left out of the Comic The comic/toy line left out some really key members like a Tank Driver and Gunner (Mobat has an auto loader... I kinda see the Mobat as totally gutted and up-armored and loaded with all sorts of hi-tech classified systems M551 Sheridan... the Joe team doesn't need an M-1 Abrams or other Main battle tank they need a light fast armored vehicle with good stopping/penetrating power able to be air lifted anywhere they need it... and like the original comic called the MOBAT Multi-ordinance BAttle Tank- I think the M551 fits that in that it fires conventional Rounds as well as Missiles from its 152mm Gun/Launcher)... yeah, they left out a team to operate the artillery and I also left that out as Punch line is the guy that operates the MMS (Hardly ever needed) and Down Range operates the FLAK and/or Whirlwind (Again Hardly ever needed) and neither of them have support personal so they are on their only when operating them I see things much the same way you do, and we've all had the conversation of how to incorporate the Artillery and Armor, since they just don't fit in that often, but it's sure nice to have. I always hated having to delegate manning the FLAK or Whirlwind to Rock'n'Roll. (Although it got easier when his thumbs broke off) Still I believe that all Joe equipment which normally requires a crew of 3-6 to operate, is designed to function with a crew of two. Like the Mobat. Does your Special team under Gung-Ho mean he outranks Torpedo? Not that Gung-Ho isn't my favorite Joe of all, but rank is rank. So when do you expand your roster for 1984? |

The simplest breakdown of Flint's career/MOS progression based on what was originally in his filecard is he went from infantryman (MOS 11B), where he went to Ranger School and probably stayed until he was an E-5 or so, to Special Forces (any one of MOSes 18B -- SF Weapons Sergeant, 18C -- SF Engineering Sergeant, 18D -- SF Medical Sergeant, or 18E -- SF Communications Sergeant) where he stayed until he was an E-6, and then went to Warrant Officer Candidate School, after which he underwent Warrant Officer rotary wing pilot training. This would give him a WOMOS (Warrant Officer Military Occupational Specialty) of Rotary Wing Aviator (MOS 153A).
I prefer to think that he's a Special Forces Warrant Officer (MOS 180A), though, which means he took the Special Forces Operations & Intelligence Course as an enlisted man, a prerequisite for MOS 180A, prior to going to Warrant Officer Candidate School. After WOCS, I can see him then getting his flight training. So my idealized version of Flint has a WOMOS of Special Forces Warrant Officer and an AMOS (Additional MOS) of Rotary Wing Aviator. That has to make the most sense. I wonder how many SF warrant officers get Helicopter training? (Totally unrelated but I remember as a kid when the Rambo figures came out they sort of did the same thing with the Filecards and Rambo is a Master Sergeant who also knows how to fly a Helicopter.) |

My typical Joe Direct Action Team is a 6 man team (based off of Joes that I have available, meaning not MOC).
Team 2 is: Stalker Mercer Low-Light Repeater Bombstrike (my custom Forward Observer) Spirit I originally had Wreckage in place of Mercer, but I don't have a loose Wreckage, so can't use him. There's another DA team with the same set-up and then there's 2 other 6-man teams that don't follow the same set-up).

I figure all Joe equipment has to be like that. Things like the MMS, where it only has 3 shots, would need to be resupplied somehow. So how many people would it take to lift one of those missiles? So the MMS crew would be however many people it takes to reload it. Can't have the guy manning the MMS pulling soldiers off the line to reload missiles.

It was definitely an odd thing to put on a "good guy's" shirt, particularly for a toy line that was targeted mostly towards pre-teens at the time. The only non-negative interpretation I can think of for the phrase is an alternative means of saying "History is written by the victors" and even that has its fair share of negative connotations (and it's a rather obscure interpretation at that... every other popular use of the phrase, historically, has been, in one way or another, been in a fascistic/absolutist/extremist context).
I sort of remember reading whatever book that it is in High School about Merlin and King Arthur that uses the phrase. The Sword in the Stone I guess, where Merlyn discusses this in great detail. I always figured the T-shirt slogan was related to that. |

The Cobra W.O.R.M.S. filecard states that the Maggott is meant for a crew of 4, but that the W.O.R.M.S. are trained and the Maggott can be operated with a crew of 2.
