Decided to do/re-do the female Joes (ha ha). Click on the images to view their filecards:
notes: Jinx was probably the toughest to do in terms of redesigning as a plausible soldier while keeping some resemblance to her original action figure. In the end, I discarded the ninja elements altogether, and decided that "my" version of Jinx isn't based on the Arashikage ninja in the old Marvel comics, but is drawn from the Chinese-American version of the character as seen in the GI Joe: Cobra comics continuity (hence her non-ninja martial arts background as listed in her file card). |

I airbrush textures in Photoshop. Most of the textures are taken from pre-existing image files that I get from the net or scan from reference documents, although when I can't find a texture I need in my archives, I end up making them (such as in the case of the Scarlett pic, where I ended up painting the upper portion of her pants and some of her torso).

Thanks for the compliments...
I always thought the Joe team should have a couple more SEALs and Marines... I use to make chain of commands with all the Joe forces you might of seen them on other Joe forms but anyhow I added all sorts of members to the team because Hasbro left out some very important operatives and support personnel that should of been included like a Tank driver and gunner for the Mobat or a RIO for the Skystriker and so on. So besides Gung-Ho, Mainframe and Leatherneck my marines would include Maelstrom (an E-5 Marine Recon Team Member with an M240 Machine Gun), Marauder (E-5 a Marine Rifleman) Hide and Seak (Marine Sniper Team Sniper and his Spotter) and a character code name that I seen somewhere else that I can't understand why hasbro hasn't used before Stitches (E-5 Navy Corpsman) are the Divers you have Torpedo and Wet-Suit? if so why can't you use them as SEALs? Combat Diver is a SEAL MOS (or NEC is that we are talking Navy)... yes Hasbro cannot comprehend the notion that SEAL means Sea, Land and Air... they can't get past the idea of a diver in a wet suit however Combat Diver or Swimmer/ Under water demolitions is still a job a SEAL preforms. Lack of Marines and support personal is something we've spent alot of time on. Even a guy like Short-Fuze has support people along with him. A mortar team is 3 or 4 right? The snipers are missing their spotters, the tanks are missing the rest of the crew, the artillery teams... yeah.. anyways.. lol. The Flagg would need a crew of 2000 or more. There's the flight crews for the Jets, the maintenance crews for all the vehicles. I'm adding a supply element to my Joeverse. This is the unit that resupplies the Joes in the field. That's something else that was always missing, how the vehicles get more gas and ammunition. I have my Joe team divided into two parts: the sneaky/black-ops things and the armor/artillery elements. The sneak/black-ops are the Rangers, Marines, SEaLs, SWAT and Special Forces guys. The armor/artillery aren't used very often. They'd be used for Cobra Island invasions, re-taking towns that Cobra has taken, that kind of thing. Now how to deal with the armor/artillery and the missing positions? I kind of take the Star Wars: Clone Wars approach. You have all these nameless Clone Troopers and Jedi generals. In my Joeverse, there are all these code-name-less Greenshirts with Joe Sargeants and Captains. Greenshirts make up the majority of the non-special ops infantry. So Steeler is overall commander of the's armor element. Heavy Metal and Thunderwing would be next in line. Below them are the Greenshirt tank commanders. My approach, alot of Joes got alot of promotions. It's not perfect, there are still issues that pop up. I'm leaning more and more towards all the Joes getting code-named. So the Mobat crews are all Joes. I have yet to find a way to work it that I really like. I really don't think that a unit like the Joes would, in reality, have armor/artillery units. It would be like the Rangers, who would get supported by the other elements of the Army. Not even getting into the office elements that are missing from Joe, or the maintenance people that are needed to maintain the vehicles and repair them. Airborne's traditional been shown as the gunner of the Dragonfly. But he's too cool a character to "waste" in that position. He's a airborne assault trooper, he should be jumping out of the helicopter, not flying in the gunner's spot. So there's a spot missing. It's the non-glamour positions that are missing, and required to allow the Joes to function as they have been created (by the type of toys and "jobs").

I like what you did with Cover Girl, making her more of a bodyguard-driver kind of thing; makes more sense then being an armor driver. I know I know that face, just can't place it..

I for one am loving the Lady Jaye Jumpsuit. Little more cleavage and she'd be perfect. I'd like to give Scarlett an E-7 just to give her overall command. She's one of those who should probably be an officer. But great work as always Zulu. None of these girls can fly a Skystriker? Not that you take requests but I'd love to see an updated Claymore and Version 2 Mercer.

EDIT: And the face is a modified version of Brazilian supermodel Adriana Lima's, and her "junk in the trunk" was taken from a photo of Canadian actress Rachel Lutrell. Quote:

Have you done Outback or Sneak Peek yet? I'd like to see your take on Pysche-Out.

An Outback .psd file is currently sitting on my hard drive (he's like Low-light, in that I think most every old-school 1980s GI Joe fan has him in their top 20 all-time faves). Sneak-Peek will have to wait until I can find a more current picture of Owen King, (novelist Stephen King's son, whose name and likeness were used for the Sneak-Peek filecard and card art, respectively). I'm still waffling on Psyche-Out's file... I don't know if I want to keep him as a PSYOPS officer (as he was in the original figure) or as an Information Operations officer (which is the relatively new and more contemporary officer functional area that's in charge of military deception operations). Psyche-Out's one of my favourite characters BTW, in concept if not exactly in toy design, as a lot of the stuff I studied in college and university involved research in the biological correlates of cognition and perception.
