HA! Check him out on Yojoe.com. Seriously, he's there. You tell me how it all works... I need someone to explain it to me.

I could explain trademarks, but not the way Hasbro is doing them. Although I suspect it does benefit them to maximize the trademarks they have in effect, which would be why they renamed Shockblast even though they had rights to the the Shockwave name.

"Inside Delta Force" is a great read. It details the selection process and a lot of the training. It also talks about a number of different missions Haney went on. "The Unit" is based on this book, but the book does a lot more with the selection and training. Fury references Haney's book and says that what CSM Haney stated was so clear and thorough and there was no point in him restating it. The only thing about this book is that the stories are all 20-30 years old.
Fury's book is great. It talks about more recent operations in Afghanistan. It's very interesting. And it gives the perspective of a Delta Force Officer. Blaber's book is also very good, but it's really a book about Leadership. You can also learn a lot about the recent war in Afghanistan, but I didn't learn an incredible amount that I didn't learn from the other books. Beckwith's book is a classic. It was written in 1983 and it gives the complete story of how Delta Force came to be. It was like a story about the Jugglers, if you will. Really, really interesting stuff, but it's a history book that focuses on Beckwith's biography and the debacle of Desert One. It's still great, but it's not as much about operational stuff and training as the others. Start with "Inside Delta Force" and then try "Kill Bin Laden". At least that's my opinion. Also, "The Killer Elite" is very interesting, but it's written by a journalist and it gets a little dry in places. The ISA is an amazing unit.

I'm still somewhat confused by the motivation for the renaming of some of the old Joes. In the case of characters like Shockwave, who shares a name with a prominent Hasbro/Takara property, I can understand. But Heavy-Duty, who is for all intents and purposes Roadblock, is a head-scratcher. I remember reading IDW Comics editor Andy Schmidt saying that the "Heavy-Duty" character in the GI Joe: Origins comic book is Roadblock, they just couldn't use the name "Roadblock" for some vague legal reason he alluded to. The part that gets me confused is this: if Hasbro has somehow lost the rights to use the "Roadblock" name as a designation for a fictional African-American machine gunner, then how have they been able to produce Roadblock toys for the 25th Anniversary/Modern Era line?

So it seems that Original Weems Rip-Cord is now named "Halo-Jumper" and Original Talltree Airborne is now Sgt. Airborne.
That frees up the confusion for Sky Patrol Airborne a little bit, and I guess it makes room for the new African-American Rip Cord. The name "HALO" would have been fine on it's own. That would have been a great name for an Air Force PJ... their logo is an Angel holding the globe.

Best example is DC's Captain Marvel. The character started out as a Fawcett character until DC comics sued them in 1953 for copyright infringement (infringing on Superman). DC then acquired the rights to the Marvel Family and integrated them into the DC universe, but in the meantime Marvel had come out with a Captain Marvel comic, which they trademarked. So DC can use their character known as Captain Marvel, but they can't generally license him as such (which is why his title is often called SHAZAM! or some derivative). I imagine it's also good for a company to secure as many trademarks as they can, so taking an older character, updating them and releasing them with a new name allows them trademark rights over two characters instead of one (assuming the first character is still protected).

So are we just not getting the Night Force Falcon and the new Roadblock figure? Is that the deal?
I read Sgt. Stone's file card. I think he will work well.

The copyright/trademark laws and naming of characters gives me a headache, so I just let it pass on by.
