PhiDpino, That's a very good set up you've got for your Police/MP's. Really solid organization; well thought out.
I just have one question: Isn't Mace an Intelligence Operative? Using Red Zone as a helicopter Pilot is not a bad way to do it. It seems to me that as long as you've dedicated him to that job, and he's a Warrant Officer in your Joeverse, it makes sense. What I didn't see was Gung-Ho and the Convention Steel Brigade figures in your Joeverse... do you incorporate them? YOJOE.COM | Filecard Gallery - Mace Mace file card seems to indicate that is intel work was mostly undercover police work than anything so he may fit better under CID. (the line about tripoli, now that I've reread it makes me think he is a Marine too) Also, he is part of the Battle corps line that originally was suppose to be DEF (some of these I consider DEF anyways, some I think should never be considered DEF). But the Spiffy jacket make him look lik he should be on a motorcycle policing the base. I've always viewed low-light as more infantry sniper than police sniper. He and the other (non-MP) snipers seem to be like to super Hooah snipers that go out without a spotter and just take out cobras like Womp Rats from a T-16. I'm not a big fan of the latest convention set except for that fact that it really solidified my view from the 90's that Bull Horn and Long Arm were MPs. Long arm always looked like a bomb expert to me. Cont... Last edited by PhilDpino; 11-15-2008 at 05:59 AM.. |

Now, Gung-ho (steel brigade) I felt was more of a temporary assignment. Had it been Falcon in russia or Duke, I think that's who would have been tapped. As far as Steel Brigade goes...I've always viewed them as First Responder...example...a US embassy is underseige. Steel Brigade will be sent in to extricate. Or they may parachute into an enemy airfield talk over and create security so the joe can start using it as a base of operation for more direct contacts with Cobra further in country. Or they may even do base security in war zones. like the way the Army MPs were doing during the beginning of the Iraq war. Kinda like super MP Greenshirts. That's what I get from their mission statement. They are like super Greenshirts...almost like "well you didn't make Joe but I have a position here that can lead to you becoming a Joe without being a greenshirt again." So Rook, Checkpoint, and Red Zone has Just become full blown joes. Also it could be argue that checkpoint is really the only true MP while Red Zone can be attached to a Urban Fighters sub-team that isn't MP related and Rook could be a intel agent specializing in interrogating POWs in the field. Also if you read the file card for the Paratrooper and commander from the convention...it kinda gives a mission statement. It makes it out to seem that the Joes action draw too much attention but steel brigade are even more covert. They go in before the joes get the lay of the land and facilitate the Joe's mission. So basically, after reading all of this wonderful information, I've come to the conculsion that Hasbro has to hire a military education expert to fix a lot of the filecards. What do you guys think?

Agreed! Or just someone willing to do a little research on the military.

Now I have to start by admiting that I'm a HUGE Chuckles fan, but I'm the biggest Magnum P.I. fan I know, so it only stands to reason...
I have a theory about Chuckles and I want to run it by you guys. ... Anyway, it says on his file card that he had worked as an "insurance investigator in Florida". Hmmmm, does that sound like a very good career background for the G.I. Joe team? It specifically says "He got his start in... Southeastern Insurance Group in Ft. Lauderdale where he still feels he owes his main allegiance." ... Or, what if "Southeastern Insurance Group" is a C.I.A. front company? I think Chuckles is a "Company" man. Alright, gentlemen. I'd like to hear what you think?

Hasbro didn't make their undercover guys feel like undercover guys: Chuckles, Mace, Action Man, etc... They don't look like they are undercover operatives.

I've always like chuckles. His outfit reminds me more of MASH and how Hawkeye dressed. And I always saw him as a more of a joker and sketchy personality type. I do think he is CIA or Army Intelligence. |

Man, not a lot of love for my boy, Chuckles.
PhilDPino, Chuckles primary specialty is C.I.D. What about using him as a detective for your M.P. unit? I gotta be honest here about something: Sonny Crockett on "Miami Vice" never wore a Hawaiian Shirt, ever. Now it's one thing to be knocking Chuckles because that figure didn't seem to fit your views of how a Joe should dress. But let's all take it easy on Sonny Crockett and Thomas Magnum. Please. PhilDpino, I liked all of your ideas. I can see why you're using Mace that way. I use him differently, but I think your way is good too. I am interested to know what you're doing about a sniper for your SWAT team? If not Low-Light, then who? Seems like that's a position you would need. Thanks very much for sharing this info with us.

Oliverbox, this is a bit off topic, but how are units typically arranged in HMMWV? For instance, I'm assuming the driver is an E4, and the vehicle commander (E5 I imagine) probably rides shotgun, and I'm guessing an automatic rifleman or SAW (E4) in the rear with another rifleman. Is there a fifth guy to man the turret weapon or do they only use one of the four men to operate that weapon? I thought I'd seen something in the Army FM about there only being three units per vehicle, but I can't find it.
