Mmmm, yeah.
Well, I guess this whole thread has been about the Joes qualifications that are listed on the File card. I have always thought it was stupid that in the cartoon everyone could fly a Sky Striker. Duke could do a lot, but there's no way on God's green Earth that an Army Infantry 1st Sgt. could fly an F-14. |

I couldn't agree more with this Oliver, I always had a big problem with everyone being able to do anything with regards to driving or flying anything in the cartoon. It just was not believe able for me when I was growing up and still isn't today. I can understand cross-training or getting several different licenses but not doing everything under the sun.
Flint's qualification as a Helicopter pilot, or Wild Bill's cross training as a LRRP before he was a pilot are about as far as you can legitimately push it. Being an F-14 Pilot, or any kind of fighter pilot, takes tremendous dedication and training. It's not just some training you can knock out in a few months. It takes years, and only officers fly jets. The Army doesn't even really have any fixed wing aircraft except for a few small planes for Special Forces insertion. To be fair, many C.I.A. field agents and Special Forces operators are pilots. They can fly small aircraft. They pick it up; they learn it. But we're talking very small aircraft. Propeller driven, passenger planes and stuff. A Fighter jet, or a large Air Craft would be WAY out of their league. Flint getting to go through Flight Warrant Officer's School and remaining in Special Forces is almost beyond the realm of reality. There are basically two Warrant Officer Programs in the Army 1. Flight Warrant Officer School - where qualified enlisted personnel become Warrant Officers as they become Helicopter Pilots 2. Every other kind of Warrant Officer. In reality, Flint would have probably gone this route, but it's not absolutely impossible that an exception to policy was made for an outstanding soldier. Flint would've been such an exception.

Doesn't the Coast Guard have some boarding teams for drug raids at sea? Sort of like an Aquatic SWAT/HRT ? That would be a great figure for G.I. Joe.

My dad did tell me while he was stationed over in Korea that they had CIA pilots flying the SR-71 blackbirds and they never knew which were regular. He said that was a incredible site and that they would pull out of the hangar and waste no time at all getting off the deck. He said some poor guy tried to snap a few shots of it with his little camera and the MP's came over and worked him over taking his film in the process.

My dad was in Air Force intell. while he was in the service. He talks about having to know every NATO and WARSAW PACT vehicle by looking at photos of film taken by fly boys

I don't think a lot of people really think about Air Force Intelligence all that much, but that is some pretty vital stuff. Pictures from Aircraft, satellite photos and relays. I wonder if they have field operatives in AF Intel, like the Army does? Did your dad ever say anything about that?

He didn't ever talk about any field opps, but certainly had to be able to develop the film and tell the pilots what they hit or missed and what they needed to go after.

We're on a mission. ;)
This thread has sort of developed into a rally point for old school Joe lovers. Of course everybody's welcome, but if people don't have a love for the old Comic of the file cards they usually leave. We've met some quality people in here. I'm only speaking for myself. Nobody else in here may care one bit about the thread. I still like it.

I'll mention some intel guys who I think would make a great addition to the Joe team, would be some guys from the D.I.A. (Defense Intelligence Agency). They're a lot like the C.I.A., except they usually have a military background and their whole purpose is to collect and disseminate information specifically for Military objectives.
