He's a lot uglier without the helmut. But he's an EOD in my book. I got him with the rest of the Blue colored Urban guys.

So I started going through my file cards and I noticed that my Joe cards having been growing and growing but my Cobra card stack is not even half of the size of my Joe stack. So I was wondering who on here has the most file cards and are there any ones you've been really meaning to get?
How do you keep them in order? I go by rank for the Joes of course, and the ones with equal rank get sorted by year they were recruited and then I sort further by alphabetizing the specialties. Not sure why I did it this way, but it works. I use to alphabetize them, but now I have so many they are no longer together. I don't have a box long enough or wide enough. plus some cards are cut from vehicle boxes or just shorter, while others are full sized. Currently they are just piled up in 3 different boxes. I keep all the cards I get. I suppose back in the day before I army built I only had one card of each. and there are less cobra cards for that reason. |

Alphabetical order.
I don't really know much about the GI Joe characters introduced after 1989 myself. Personally, the last "wave" of Joes I really got into was 1988's set (the one that included Budo, Shockwave, Muskrat, etc.). I tend to disregard or ignore as inconsequential most characters introduced past that point. A large part of my recently revived interest in GI Joe is motivated by nostalgia, and I can't really work up any interest for the characters that I didn't first encounter as a kid. So no Sky Patrol? That was my holy grail for a while. I think just like any other year there are good ones and bad ones. The best figures IMO out of 90 was Salvo; Free Fall; Bullhorn; Night Creeper. (I'm a huge Range-Viper fan also but the colors may turn some people off) The most involved Comic Characters out of 90 was the Night Creeper, and the SAW-Viper as they were highly involved in the comics As for the Cartoon, Capt Grid-Iron and Metal Head seem to be highly featured in that last run of GIJoe cartoons. I missed 90% of that, but were I able to watch them I would have. As for 1991 there were a lot of well made figures, but this is when we hit NEON weapons at full-swing. However the best figure has to be Big-Ben. He's a solid figure. and the Sonic Maj Bludd was good. My personal favs, Mercer V2 and Interrogator. That version of Snake-Eyes was highly featured n the comics and the cartoons. I loved him at the time but have since grown out of him. I think that was Version 4. Now how many do we have? 40? |

Big Ben is an awesome figure. One of my top 10 figures. There are some good figures in 91+, just have to ignore the weapons.

My "expanding and discovering" of GI Joe mainly just takes the form of creatively recontextualizing the 1982 to 1988 characters in a more modern setting (or modding/creating custom figures), as opposed to looking up the Joes introduced past the time I was actually into them as a kid. Most of my "real world" interests are only remotely and tangentially GI Joe-related, so it figures that nostalgia would be the property's main draw with me. Yeah, all the online (and comic book store) griping about the changes is getting annoying. I have no problem with people voicing their displeasure over the stuff they're exposed to, but past a certain point, can't these people just ignore the new movie and the new comics and spare themselves the aggravation (and spare us having to wade through pages of whining whenever a new comic book review comes out)? I think the movie has the potential to be execrably bad in terms of faithfulness to the property given what we've seen so far but I don't see how a (potentially) bad movie will be able cheapen my memories of the GI Joe toys and comics. |

So does anyone know what other classic characters we should probably see this year or next? Aside from the Assault on Cobra Island packs, it was mentioned that we would see the Snow Cat, so I'm assuming we'll get Frostbite. But what about Airtight, Lifeline, Leatherneck, Heavy Metal, Footloose, Low-Light, Dial-Tone, etc. Any rumors? |
