I think this makes a perfectly feasible explaination for a lot of things. We all may pay closer attention to rank as the Joe team is large enough. and no matter what Duke is higher ranked than any other enlisted man. No matter what Dusty knows, Duke knows better, and is a leader.
Now if Dusty and Salvo are on a mission together then maybe Dusty has a better ability to lead in that situation, but a E-7 most likely has a good 5-10 years life experience on an E-5. Still this guy has added what I would call the best explanation of how the Joes could function. Especially on how they could get their intel. I like the part about the wasteful mini-carrier. Well thought out and worked piece. I'm not a big fan of the rank thing, but it makes sense in the context of the shown ranks of the Joes. Without giving promotions you'd have to have the "experience over rank" thing. There's just no way that Dusty, the top desert troooper, is only an E-4.

No idea if he's a tanker, but he's got some real neat ideas (and no, I don't know "Raptor from Canada," we don't all live on the same iceberg ).

I'm really liking the way he explains the vehicles they use.
Can definately see alot of private contractors coming up with "out-there" prototypes like the HAVOC and Raider. Stuff that the real military couldn't use. Also LOVE how he explains the Rolling Thunder and such. Could definately see that happening as Generals "hide" their secret projects when Congress starts sniffing around.

I agree. As an instructor, which really most of these guys would have to be from time to time. I could see them all as E-6 and up. |

Now only that, but how is Dusty (the top expert on the Joe team on desert warfare) supposed to lead a desert operation and give his expertise when he's an E-4 and a guy like Salvo is an E-7??

Wow, this is exactly the sort of thing I've been working on, zuludelta. I've been modeling the Joes after a Ranger company with armor, artillery and aviation platoons attached. But the photos make your organization look awesome. Thanks for the pics.

So many E-4s on the Joe team is actually very problematic. With a few possible exceptions, you would probably have to be at least an E-5 to be qualified enough to even be considered for a spot on the Joes. That might be a good question for Hama. Why there were so many E-4s that appeared to have experience well beyond their grade.
Stalker should have been at least an E-6 in 1982. Dusty, Spirit and Recondo at least E-5 when we first meet them. |
