I'm developing a Security Team. These are the guys that go in after the base has been taken and do the mop-up (taking prisoners) or maintain control of a captured base.
Law would be on that Team, along with the Steel Brigade guys (Rook, Checkpoint and Redzone). I dont' know quite what else to do with the Flamethrowers, so they get put on this Team to help provide Security. As far as Flamers make them EOD's or Combat engineers, or Hazmat guys or better yet they can be the maintenance guys who are all good with a blowtorch and they fall under the R&D guys. (I think I like that idea) |

When people colloquially talk about "demolitions experts," what they're usually referring to are "sappers"... army or USMC combat engineers who are cross-trained in infantry unit tactics. These guys serve primarily as explosives and mobility/countermobility specialists attached to infantry units, and they serve a secondary function as infantry riflemen. All sappers also have at least some basic EOD training and many of them are fully-qualified to wear the DoD EOD Badge just like the EOD guys. I think Zap and Trip-Wire fall under the sapper category.
EDIT: ninja'd by Loose Cannon :P The few joes that are Marines do not have Demolitions listed anywhere. But Assuming Gung-Ho and Leatherneck are Force Recon they would get the SEAL/BUDS training. Hence I change my original pick of Mercer to GUNG-HO! |

With all of the talk about the Joe SWAT team i started thinking about the alley vipers and how they would operate, and because i saw the flamethrower attachment on the resolute BAT i started thinking, the BAT would be good for first entry and clearing with that, since I doubt COBRA is all that concerned with prisoners, and the flamethrower would work great in close quarters.
On another note, I always thought the B.A.T.s were awesome, but I hated the idea that they were as stupid as the battle droids in Star Wars, I liken them to terminators. makes them much more menacing and formidable in my joeverse.

You figure all the joes listed as "Explosives" or "Demolitions" would really be combat engineers 21B?

I've been doing more reading on Delta Force... it's WAY more like G.I. Joe than I ever realized. And rank is a real factor in Delta's chain of command.

Demolitions = Combat Engineer Explosives Expert = Combat Engineer or EOD (depending on the character) Ordnance = EOD or Ammunition Specialist (depending on the character) The way I rationalize it is that EOD guys don't normally do tactical demolitions work in the course of their duties in the real world. That's combat engineer work. EODs primarily do what their name implies. They disable and disrupt all manner of munitions. An infantryman or cavalry scout would be more likely to conduct combat demolition missions in the field than an EOD, although more and more, EODs are finding themselves closer to the frontline than a typical combat service support soldier traditionally is found. |

I figure Tunnel Rat is a Ranger who's been crosstrained as an EOD. So when they're out and come across an IED or need a bomb rigged or something, Tunnel Rat is the guy they call.
Tripwire and Lightfoot are more Combat Engineers. I still don't have a good place for the Flamethrowers. What were they used for in the military? Still don't have 'em nowadays? I know it was never a primary "speciality" or anything like that, but there were guys with flamethrowers in 'Nam and WW2. I've always thought of my B.A.T.S. as fairly smart. You can't trick them. They aren't incredibly tough, they can be stopped, but it takes alot. They're expensive so there aren't hundreds of them. Even Cobra has a budget. But yeah, they'd be perfect for cleaning out a building.
