Figuring out how it all works! You are so right that why I love it here. Yeah why do the Joes need to kind of tanks, Planes, and Vamps? I do like the 2 or more Joe teams. Makes sense well at least to me it does.

Yeah. The way I figure it, the AWE Striker makes more sense for a desert vehicle then the VAMP (it's lighter, and it actually resembles a Sand Rail. Out in Yuma, Arizona are these huge sand dunes, really loose sand and the people that ride on the dunes used modified dune buggies called Sand Rails. They are literally just a frame, seat, engine and driving components-brakes, steering, etc..). So the VAMP would be used in certain environments and the Awe Striker in others.
I disregard ALOT of the newer Joe vehicles, some are just redundant and have no use whatsoever. There's also too damn many SHARC variations to use realistically. My Joes are divided up into: Alpha and Beta Bases, North America and Europe. These are the big bases with the armor, artillery and air components of the Joe teams. Then there are Foward Bases in Sierra Gordo, Trucial Abysmia, Greenland, and couple other locations. These would have a small armor, artillery and air components. The Greenshirts make up the armor, artillery and infantry units. The rest of the Joes (Rangers, SEaLs, Marines and Special Forces) are the main mission guys. These are the ones that do the real meat and potatoes of the Joe work. The Delta Force type missions. These guys are divided into: Recon Teams (6 member units), there are 4 of them Amphibious Assault (Marines, SEaLs) VBSS Unit Airborne Insertion (by helicopter or by HALO) Special Forces Typical Recon Team consists of: CO XO Sniper Pointman EOD ??? Not sure what to make the 6th slot.

I figure the joes use a lot of experimental weaponry. They may only have 3 Maulers which they thought were improvements to the MOBAT. But since they still have 2 MOBATs left they still use them. Same with the Vamps and AweStikers and Hummers.
I personally break my teams down like so Armor (Tracked Vehicles) led by Gen Flagg Jr Fast Attack \Cavalry (Wheeled Vehicles) Led by Gen Rey Urban Led by Duke(My Duke is a Maj General) Artillery Led by Hawk Infantry Led by Colton Airborne/Helicopter Led by Raven (he's just v3 Hawk with the jetpack) Air Led by Payload (Smallest team and works with all other teams) HQ/snow Led by Austin and Flagg Sr. with Hollingsworth the overall snow commander Sea/Jungle(Marine/Navy) Led by Keel-Haul |

The Airborne Insertion Team is my all-purpose Joe squad. 12 member unit. The Recon Teams are used for smaller missions. Recon is a bad word because they don't perform just recon missions. Assault Team might work better, or Mission Team. One Recon Team might be: CO: Stalker XO: Muskrat Pointman: Spearhead EOD: Wreckage Sniper: Crosshair Combat Controller: Airstrike (one of my customs) Kind of like a 6-man SEaL unit. The Recon Teams need support from other units (insertion, extraction, back-up, etc..) The Airborne Insertion Team is a "fire and forget" unit. They are self-supporting. Inserted and then they're on their own. Flint, Wild Bill, Airborne, Crazylegs, Freefall, Ripcord, Hit & Run, Alpine, Crankcase, Tunnel Rat, Medivac (my pararescueman), and I forget who my 12th man was. The Special Forces is another independant unit. They're supported by the Recon Teams when needed. Claymore, Recondo, Outback, Falcon and Psyche-Out make up this unit. They don't work as a unit, each member being assigned missions best suited for them.

Don't want to get all pedantic, Troynos, but I think with your recon team, what you mean by CO is team leader, as "CO" is an actual position, assigned to officers and (rarely) warrant officers at the company level or higher. Same with the XO position.
Otherwise, I like how you've broken it down. It makes a lot of sense while still keeping with the spirit of the more fantastical elements of the comic. Man, I should really get to updating the PDF doc I promised oliverbox and Loose (was it Loose?) a couple of pages back. All this talk has rekindled my interest in "playing" with GI Joe structure and organization. |

Yeah, I know I don't have the terminology right, but it's alot easier to type CO and XO and know that I mean Team Leader and Second. Consider it my short hand.

With 1 year time in service an enlisted member can drop a warrant packet, this also applies to flight school. Your chances of being picked up are narrower than if you have more experience, but you can come straight out of highschool and become a warrant with the high school to flight school program.

Ugh... so Dusty is the Joe's only true Desert Warfare Trooper. He's an E-4. Shouldn't he be a higher rank so can "ride herd" over Joe operations in the desert?
