Ok, so here are some off the top of my head, but not in any order. First there's Shockwave. What is it about characters in masks, I don't know, but I just love his look and every version of the original just got better. I couldn't wait to get a night force version, which was perfect for covert ops, and then when the convention 07 version came out, I just had to have him. I really love the black vest and mask and the dark green colors.
Of course, Low-Light is in this list as well. This figure is a solid classic and I recently got the Marauder's version and I really love this version. The Convention 07 is my favorite but Marauder colors really make him an outstanding sniper candidate for jungle insertions. Tiger Force Outback is probably my favorite international fig. Not a realistic uniform, but there's just something about the orange shirt and white hair that I just love. I dig the original but the TF Outback is probably my pride and joy. Falcon is my Flint or Duke of the Joe team. He gets used everywhere. When I was younger I always thought the Joes needed a real officer to lead the platoon, and Falcon filled this niche perfectly. As you all know, I love the green or camo Joes the best and Falcon is no exception. Sonic Falcon, Convention 03 Falcon, and Night Force Falcon are great recreations of the original. Besides, who doesn't love a Green Beret who's packing a shotgun. And last but not least...Tunnel Rat. Ever since his first appearance in GI Joe, he's been a prominent front-liner. This guy just reminds me of the real tunnel rats in Vietnam. Everything from his modified light machine gun to the bandanna to the face camo to his pack with flash lights just spoke the ultimate soldier. It's no surprise that this guy's face is an homage to Hama himself. |

So I was wondering, which ARAH figures would make your top five or top ten list? I would ask who's you're all time favorite but that would be like asking a parent who his favorite kid is. You can base your choices on the figures themselves and anything about the figure's character that just makes him an awesome Joe in your mind.
- Torpedo: I have an uncle in the US Navy, and the fact that it was explicitly stated in Torpedo's original filecard that he practiced a Filipino martial art gave me a sense of cultural pride and familial connection as a kid. I don't think Hasbro has ever produced a GI Joe figure that has done the SEALs justice, though. - Quick-Kick: in retrospect, one of the goofiest Joes in terms of toy design, but he was my first ever action figure, so he gets into my top 5 for purely sentimental reasons. - Tunnel Rat: it's Larry Hama in plastic form! Again, just like with Torpedo, as a kid, I'd developed a fondness for character because I identified with certain aspects detailed in his filecard and in his cartoon and comic book depiction. - Gung-Ho: My second ever GI Joe, if I remember correctly. Was my first modded figure, too (I accidentally broke his knee joint, and learned a lot about modding trying to recreate a working knee joint). Besides, he seemed like on of the tougher Joes from his filecard. - Outback: Just a cool figure all around. Other faves: Low-Light, Snake-Eyes, Alpine, Mainframe, Stalker |

Am I allowed to pick Cobras and not Joes?

Dress Blues Gung-Ho was another favorite of mine. I really hope they do another one in the 25th(modern era) line. To round it out would probably Flint, Snake Eyes....hmmm now I can't remember who got the most play, I only see the huge battles I used to have. About Tiger Force. BeachHead was given command in the convention fig right? But we also have Tiger Force Flint and Duke. When Flint and/or Duke are on a mission with Tiger Force is BeachHead in charge or does he take a backseat? If he is in charge do Flint and/or Duke act as advisors or do they let Beach do his thing and go along with it? |

Have any of you guys read the Duke movie prequel? It is not as bad as I somewhat expected it would be.

It's been a disturbing trend over the past few years, where commanders have been bending over backwards to accomodate companies like General Dynamics, Boeing, and Lockheed, sometimes at the cost of strategic and tactical flexibility. Part of this is because some of these generals are looking at fat consultancy positions at these same companies after retirement. This should be raising "conflict-of-interest" flags and I wonder why there hasn't been a bigger public outcry over this, especially since some of these commercially-motivated actions have directly led to the loss of soldiers' lives and gross overspending (the V-22 Osprey scandal probably being the highest profile example).

In no particular order, favorites:
Beachhead Dial-Tone Tunnel Rat Alpine Spearhead Airborne Hit & Run Falcon Flint Big Ben I stopped right after the Falcon years. Would occasionally go into the toy section and check out the latest Joes, stopped in '91 when I grabbed Big Ben. Just saw the figure and had to have it. Also seeing heavy usage was Footloose and Lowlight. I never had Outback, Shockwave or Muskrat, but my cousins did and I watched them during the summer so developed a love for those figures then.

One thing that always bothered me was that Footloose came with an M-16 (on a strap, which was the coolest thing ever as far as I was concerned as a kid and wished more Joe weapons had straps, still do wish that) and a LAW rocket where Bazooka (who was the anti-armor trooper) had the same kind of rocket launcher as Footloose.
So what was the use for Bazooka? Why'd he come with the same kind of weapon as the non-anti-armor trooper? Why didn't Bazooka come with a "real" (at least to a kid's eyes) rocket launcher like Zap did? Also Footloose so reminded me of the soldiers from the old show Tour of Duty, they carried LAW rockets.

Have you guys seen the Resoulte cels they posted on the front page? I really like the look for Gung Ho, I hope he gets a figure if/when they restart the Modern Era line.
