Awesome. I was pretty sure the Silent Castle was in a fictional country.
Damn, there's alot of 'em in Joe.

Ok so here's something I've always wondered. The filecards for the 1982 Joes list only pay grades. But in 83, the cards have pay grades with ranks in parantheses. After that, it was pretty much back to only pay grades with the occasional parenthetical rank. Were they just trying something new in 83 and decided against it? Also, the 83 cards say simply "sergeant" for E-5, E-6, and E-7. I don't know, just something that's always intrigued me. Maybe a question for Mr. Hama down the road.

What are all the fictional countries in the comics?
Sierra Gordo Trucial Abysmia (which has already popped up in IDW) Wolfkuckland (sp?) Darklonia Cobra Island What was that country in the Battle Force 2000 issue? What was that country that connects to Sierra Gordo, from the DDP issues where Duke was running that black op disguised as an IG? There's also that country where Roadblock and Chuckles escorted the prince, from Special Missions.

I'm thinking of making him Falcon's XO.
I use Falcon as a Captain, and he's in command of all my sub-teams. Psyche-Out is a Captain, and it would make the most sense to me to use him as the XO for all the Sub-Teams... the XO usually runs the HQ unit, so Psyche-Out could coordinate all the operations that might be taking place simultaneously, keep them organized, and make sure Falcon is up to speed. He could also go with a unit as the commander, if Falcon is unavailable. So having Psyche-Out's Tiger Force uniform is nice because Tiger Force is the main thrust of Special Operations in my Joeverse - Night Force is WAY covert. Do you use NF, TF, Slaughter's Marauders, Sky Patrol, Eco Warriors, DEF? for your sub teams? |

Well I asked my dad and he was a Gunnery Sgt. so he straightened out that mess right away and handed me the officers ettiquette book he had. That had all the ranks for all branches, at the time the book was written. It's outdated now since it was published in 66 or something, but it did the job and added a little order in my life. **It still had Commodores for 0-7 |

I have been following this discussion with interest and think Mr. Hama's willingness to answer questions is awesome. I have to say that asking about changing ranks on the filecards is probably not going to elicit a particularly illuminating answer, since that's probably kind of a trivial thing. I do like the question about "what was the intent of the organization/was it supposed to resemble any particular real units" though.

Judging by his previous answer, I don't think the ranks were all that important to him as he followed his idea of a spec ops unit being more mission/experience based leadership.

Well, either way you slice it, we'll finally get an answer about rank and chain of command and unit size, so that we can put em to rest. We still have 3 questions left and the way we've been writing, it's more like 3 questions with five parts each. So we should be able to cover a lot of ground. Why don't you guys start drafting Question #3.

Snake-Eyes is listed as a "commando" and shown as an LRRP in Viet Nam. What exactly is Snake-Eyes' military qualifications and why is all his information classified (he's the only Joe that way). How much of the usage of Snake-Eyes was you and how much was Hasbro?

Hey, here's some interesting things I learned about the Rangers. They have special teams for various types of insertions (HALO, HAHO, SCUBA, and these teams are made up of Rangers who graduated from Special Forces schools for Freefall and Underwater Operations. So it's possible to be a Ranger with Special Forces training.
