On the other hand, this leaves a lot of questions unanswered.
He evidently has no love for Claymore... oh well. I suppose I wanted to really get some clarity about Stalker, but maybe Mr. Hama never really thought it was that important to iron all that stuff out. I suppose if you want to use him as a Green Beret, there's nothing wrong with it. Other than Claymore, I can't think of a guy in the Joeverse who would be a better candidate for Special Forces who is not already.

Damn, I wish he could have answered whether Stalker was supposed to be a Green Beret. I guess not. Thanks for doing the leg work Oliver. Deeply appreciated.

Troynos, how would you compare the Marvel European Missions or Action Force issues to the regular Marvel line or Special Missions? Are they comparable? Just as good? Better? Worse?

I emailed Gunslingercbr and asked if he was available. So I bought Ninja-Ku (as a black guy like he's suppose to be, before the current storm shadow figure) Mariner, Abutre Negro, Manleh, and Re-Bar (Sea-Bee).

I'm a little let down about Claymore, oh well. If it's too good to be true it probably is. Maybe you planted the seed. I always thought Lowlight was Delta Force since he was sort of in the same outfit as the Delta Force Movie characters. I suppose we could interpret operator as different branches. But regardless CIA is involved in every action the Delta Force is used in for the most part. I suppose they may back up other units from time to time. As far as rank becoming blurred in a special operations force, I see how Duke would move even higher up on the ladder. At this point, age and experience will have more sway than anything else. Someone I know very closely, has worked with all these special operator types. I need to grill him about the CIA operators. So does that mean Larry has a high regard for CID? |

Based on Age, Leadership for GIJoe Operators(Infantry) May work out like this:
HAWK Claymore( Who doesn't exist in Larry's world but Vietnam vet, maybe he gets dropped) Duke (Too much experience not to outrank Hawk) Stalker (Experience again) Flint (He's in his 30s) Snake Eyes? (He's Old) Gung-Ho (I've always assumed he's a Vietnam Vet, like I read it in a comic, but I can't find anything, Maybe we can ask Larry about my Favorite Joe of all ) Shipwreck (As a SEAL and a Vietnam vet) Leatherneck (As a Recon Marine and a vet) Torpedo (Most WO have to be E-6 before even being eligible for warrant officer school, and if he's now Lt Torpedo he should move up even farther) Obviously I'm taking out of my ass. I guess the years of trying to put it in order has been pointless to some degree. |

Gentlemen, I just heard back from Larry Hama... Here's the transcript:
I don't know the answers to most of these. I just supposed that all Joes were at least airborne qualified with very current jump status. Most Joes are Ranger qualified. Chuckles is Army CID, but has connections to CIA. Low-Light is very definitely an operator. I am pretty sure I did not write the file card on Claymore. It reads like a parody of my stuff. I would never have written a line like "his reputation as a soldier is known far and wide." It looks like somebody just paraphrased a bunch of key phrases from previous file cards. This may have been right after the first time I got "fired." They though they could save money by having the file cards written in house. If a Joe sounds too superlative or perfect, odds are good I didn't write the card. Classifications and qualifications become rather meaningless in elite covert ops units. As does rank. It's a whole other ballgame from the rest of the services, so a lot of the seeming hard and fast rules don't apply. LH You hear that boys? If you think they should be a Ranger - They probably are. And Low-Light? Special Forces at LEAST! YES! WoW! Great job Ollie! and kudos to you guys for keeping this thread thriving after all this time! |
