However, I figure we are interested in these characters... we talk about their qualifications all the time. How can we fix it? Help me make it work.

I like the question. It can go either way. It could make him "evade" it cause it's so meaty, or it could excite him that we've spent that much time/energy pouring thru his "bible" and will make him want to take the time to answer.
Maybe combine the "is he a ranger" ones into one "question". Were Hit & Run, Ripcord and Airborne intended to be rangers? That kind of thing. Keep all the characters in there, just kind of "hide" it.

Maybe just pick 1 or two of the major "question" characters and kind of add a phrase "and have alot more have questions about"
Kind of leave it open for him to come back and "who are the other ones". I'd drop Claymore and Big Brawler (much as we like Claymore) cause Hama really didn't use him), so concentrate on the major characters that he did use. Recondo, Low-Light, Outback.

So maybe we can look at our first question about qualifications/training. Something like:
1. In the file cards, some soldiers are specifically mentioned as having certain training, while others seem like certain training could be inferred. For example, Flint and Duke are explicitly mentioned as having Special Forces training, while Recondo's position as an instructor at the Jungle Warfare Training Center, and his work in the comic book would lead us to believe that Recondo is also a Green Beret. Can you offer us a little more clarity on the military qualifications/training of some characters? In other words, were these soldiers intended to be Ranger Qualified? Special Forces Qualified? etc. Spirit - Is he a Ranger or anything more? Psy Ops? Special Forces? Airborne - Is he a Ranger? Rip Cord - Is he a Ranger? Low-Light - What is the extent of his training: Ranger? SF? CIA? Stalker - we know he's a Ranger, but he wore a Green Beret. Is he Special Forces qualified? Recondo - What is the extent of his training? Is he a Ranger? Special Forces? LRRP? His name would make me think he's at least a LRRP Ranger, and his work with the natives in Sierra Gordo is the kind of stuff Special Forces would have done. What else did you have in mind for this character? Outback - We know he's a Ranger; is he a Green Beret/Special Forces? Hit & Run - Is he a Ranger? Big Brawler - What is the extent of his training? Ranger? Special Forces? Black Ops? Intelligence Support Activity? Chuckles - We think he really works for C.I.A. or the D.I.A. Who is he really, and what is the extent of his training? Claymore - This character has become a fan favorite among our group. I've been a huge fan for a long time, and there's a lot of mystery to the character. We know he's Ranger qualified... was he also LRRP trained? He did three tours in 'Nam, and worked with Intel... Was he a Green Beret as well? Was he working with the CIA/MAC-SOG on the Phoenix Project? Falcon - when he's listed as having served with "Blue Light", was that a reference to Delta Force? Did you intend for Falcon to be a Delta Force Operator as well as a Green Beret? Is he the only one who intended to have worked with Delta Force? Or in Joeverse, was the Joe Team your version of Delta Force? What do y'all think of this question? Do we need to add more names? Do we need to word things differently? I think I might submit our questions one at a time so we don't overwhelm him. When we hear back from him, we can submit another question. My suggestion would be to ask more about the conception and construction of the filecards themselves and kind of back into questions about specific characters. Just as an example, the question about Stalker being a green beret, which is a great question, maybe better worded like this: Was Hasbro or Marvel adamant about certain details being adressed in filecards? For example, we know Stalker was a favorite character of yours, was any thought given to specifying that he had special forces training? The original figure wears a green beret and he seems like a prime candidate for it. Just an idea. On the other hand, the Chuckles question is perfect and direct. |

Good ideas by Troynos. I like keeping them open-ended so that he can fill in information, rather than overwhelming him with names.

Could frame it like "Why were only certain characters (Flint, Duke) spefically listed as being special forces, when there were others that seemed to be as well but were never said to be (Outback, Stalker, Recondo)?"

Maybe even a "Was there any training that wasn't included on the filecards that the Joes all underwent as part of the Joe team, rather than in their military careers beforehand?" We might also want to ask if GIJoe was Delta Force in his universe, as has been speculated in this thread, or if they existed as well. Because that would rather indicate that they were all special forces.

To simplify - Are the following characters Airborne Rangers? Airborne, Rip Cord, Hit & Run, Spirit, and Recoil Are the following characters Ranger and Special Forces qualified? Stalker, Outback, and Recondo Could you tell us a little more about the qualifications and training of Claymore, Big Brawler, Low-Light, and Chuckles? Are they CIA or DIA? Are they Special Forces? Alright gentlemen, how's that looking?

I like it. Hits on all the characters we want to know about, doesn't overwhelm and leaves open for him to create more questions/answers from it.
