Hey, the convention Shockwave/Blast, his secondary speciality is no longer choir, it's "military policeman".
Interesting...

I hadn't noticed that at all. That's funny; I wonder why they changed it. I have this set, and they're really cool. I would say that it's my favorite set from a Convention so far... except maybe the 2007 Clutch with his Asbury Park Jacket - straight up tribute to Springsteen. The jacket says something about Mani's Mean Machines or something. It's pretty awesome.

Just noticed on Lady Jaye's filecard. The 2007 single carded is the same as the original, personal clerk. The 2008 DVD pack is different, her secondary is "armament repair".
I wonder if in 2008 Hasbro decided to change the non-military secondary's and update 'em. They did this with Shockwave's "choir". Anyone got one of the SRO Cutter's handy? See what his card says.

So reading Falcon's filecard, I think he should now be in a role similar to Claymore. He's the guy that goes in first to help set up/train the locals. Kind of like how Recondo was shown to have befriended the Turaco tribe in Sierra Gordo, Falcon is the guy that goes around the world and does that.
... just another word about Falcon: his file card lists him as part of "Blue Light" group. "Blue Light" was one of the early code words for Delta Force. I always understood Falcon as having served as an officer with Delta Force before coming to G.I. Joe. I may not be telling anyone anything they didn't already know, but Delta Force specializes in counter terrorism and urban/close quarters combat. Since Falcon is the leader of Night Force, and he's got a background with Delta Force, I use Night Force as my "Delta Force" of G.I. Joe. They're considered the most elite unit among all my sub-groups, and Falcon personally leads this unit. So, I think the way you've suggested using Falcon is great; it makes a lot of sense. Special Forces usually works in that teaching capacity in teams of at least 2 - so I could see Falcon and Outback as a great pair for that kind of work. Falcon and Claymore certainly have a lot in common - though I do think there are some important differences. But Falcon is not just a "Green Beret". He's one of the best trained commandos on the whole Joe team - He's former Delta Force and an Officer. He's a lot tougher than most people give him credit for. Honestly, I thought Falcon and Claymore should be considered to be every bit as tough/important as Duke and Flint. There are a lot of similarities between the pairs.

Falcon, I think, was meant to have a bigger role, he just never did. The movie castrated him (with his character and being Duke's brother), and the comic he just wasn't used to his fullest.
But yeah, he's one of the baddest of the bad Joes.

This has somewhat to do with the filecards but more so the card fronts from the original Joes. I always loved that Hasbro included the contents (accessories) that each of the Joes/Cobras came with on the cardfronts (usually under the plastic where it attached to the card) back in the day with the weapons called out by name most of the time. I actually miss that now. They also often named which weapons a certain Joe or Cobra was expert on the filecards.
It was because of that I knew a heck of a lot about Nato/Warsaw weapon systems long before I ever handled the real versions. I always thought that was an awesome detail that GI Joe had that most other toys didn't. |
