Absolutely, I'm sure we'd learn a lot. For instance, if Hasbro did make changes to file cards, what were they? Maybe he intended Stalker to be Special Forces but they thought "Ranger" sounded better. Who knows? Until the official word, I use him as a Green Beret, but Oliverbox is right to say that it is not certain whether he is. It shall remain controversial for the time being. Maybe we could come up with a list of questions to email Hama. I imagine he's busy, but maybe he'd find the time to respond to some fan mail if he knew it was from his greatest file card admirers. Us!

That quote reminded me that I still haven't painted up my Night Force Scarlett.
Oliver is right, for baseline discussions, gotta go off what is in the cards. But Stalker and Outback would definately be Green Berets. I think there's enough circumstancal evidence and enough pieces given that it adds up to them being Green Berets. If you were to compare Stalker's and Falcon's filecards, they're pretty similar. Both are combat medics, both have the languages. I think there's enough pieces that point to Stalker being a Green Beret. Could throw Duke into the ring as well. I can't think of any evidence - circumstantial or otherwise - that would prove Outback's qualification as a Green Beret. His Ranger qualification is practically his entire file card. As for Stalker - What evidence? Languages? Well, he's trained in Intelligence and served overseas. Medic? There's lots of Medics and the Rangers have them too. His v1 figure had a green beret? Flint's v1 figure had a black one, it means nothing. His service before the Joe team was with the 75th Ranger Regiment, just like Snake-Eyes, Storm Shadow, and probably Claymore. What other evidence for SF qualification is there for Stalker? I think we need to reevaluate the Ranger Regiment. Those guys are incredible. The most disciplined, toughest, mission capable, best light Infantry unit in the world. They should not be seen so much as "less" than Special Forces. They should be seen as "different" than Special Forces. If SF "wins hearts and minds", the Rangers "take scalps and cut throats".

I haven't weighed in on the Sniper discussions since I never paid much attention to it as a kid. I figure the laser guys as snipers. And before Lowlight, Flash was my Sniper. Ambush and Crosshairs make a great 2 man team for sure. But I also see the use of the three man teams because the Stryker Brigade set up. The Joes probably only deploy the armor in limited roles and this would be a good time to use a three man team. Like Flash, Sci-Fi, and Red Spot. Those are not the A-Team Snipers in my book.
Personally I always though Lowlight was Delta-Force. He's the first with the knit cap and dark urban clothing. So I starting thinking about how does Swat Deploy their Snipers. But I can't find anything good yet. I'm assuming teams of Two. Then I start wondering about BlackHawk down. Not your conventional use of Snipers. Gary Gordon and Randall Shughart plus one more sniper were taking shots from the Air. (Hmmm sounds like Hollow-Point and Barrel Roll) Then they were dropped off. Probably not the best way to deploy snipers but it's hard to argue with guys with balls that big. |

It seems like IDW is using Snake-Eyes the "right" way. He's an "off the books" asset that's out there by himself doing what he needs to be doing.
I found it interesting that Scarlett's career could be endangered by associating with SE. So does that mean SE is "rogue" or was it a case of he's still working for Hawk but "on the sly" where the others don't know it. |

They weren't "deployed" on the ground. They volunteered to go down and secure the crash site (and protect Durant) even though they were only equipped with sniper rifles. Can't argue with 'em for doing that, takes huge set of balls.

This is a great idea. We could even tell him about this thread... I bet he would get a huge kick out of it.

I think Hama would love that kind of Q&A, it seems that no one ever asks him about that part of his Joe-career.

The old Cobra Agent, Scar-Face. What was his qualifications? What did he do? I know he was a courier, but can't remember if anything else was ever said about him.
Got an idea kicking around that may or may not involve his figure.
