Um, Larry Hama didn't seem like a Hasbro employee, so technically they did hire an outside employee to do filecards.
Dusty's filecard was not just any employee, it was a guy who was really god damn important too the G.I. Joe line (his face was sculpted and used as Leatherneck's) Maybe Larry Hama just wrote that because ya know it gave the figure character and would make him seem cool to the target audience (8 year old boys)

Yeah, that's right. They flipped the name or something like that. Tadur became Rudat, or something like that. Flint was named after some guy, too... like one of the animation producers or something. Anyway, those aren't the only ones. A lot of Joe characters are named after people behind the scenes... even some fans who have helped with stuff like the Collector's Club and Steel Brigade.

Yeah, YoJoe lists who the character was named after, if someone specific.
As far as I know, the only Joe that was modeled after someone was Tunnel Rat and Larry Hama.

You were cheated in your youth because Special Missions was really great. Everything Troynos said about the series is right on. No Drama - Just great Military action.
How was that GSG-9 Special? Was it good? Those GSG-9 guys are supposed to be the read deal. I've always thought it would be cool to have one on the Joe Team. My understanding is that their sort of a SWAT/Anti-Terrorist Unit? Like Delta/SAS? How did the Military Channel portray them? The GSG-9 show was good. It was about their first real public mission. They storm a hijacked Luftansa plane that ended up in Somalia. No losses. They formed the unit and within 5 years had it fully trained. It was alright. I don't deny they GSG-9 are the real deal. They Israeli hostage rescue in Entebbe Uganda was way cooler. We don't see much of that anymore. Delta Force is meant to do this mission even though I'm not sure they've had to yet. The Movie Delta Force was loosely based on TWA flight 847. It would have been cool if it was real. The Navy guy did die and that was real, but not the rest. I've always been fascinated by Airplane Hostage situations. I moved into one of my houses growing up because the guy who lived there was killed by terrorist. Kuwait Airways Flight 221 On December 3, 1984, It can't be the easiest thing to do. And failure is catastophic. But Americans do hostage rescues: Inside a U.S. hostage rescue mission - Army News, opinions, editorials, news from Iraq, photos, reports - Army Times |

Hostage Rescue has to be the ultimate skills-mission. Mess up just a little bit and you lose a hostage and you lose the mission.
Maybe that's the best use for Snake-Eyes in the Joeverse, hostage rescue.

were any of the named Cobras named after employees?
Actually, thinking about that I would love some more unique Cobras. Like a couple Cg's or Vipers, with stories. Kinda like some of the Fred characters (never did get to read the comics, just a wee bit too young) Or maybe they can expound a bit on the origins of some the ones we DO have giving us their real names. Unless they already have, in which case please enlighten me.
