For a "Ghost Squad" type of unit, we might look back at our list of confirmed Special Forces Qualified Joes and start there...
1. Colton 2. Falcon 3. Flint 4. Duke 5. Beach-Head 6. Drop Zone 7. Kamakura Then we might consult our list of probable/"should be" Green Berets. 1. Claymore 2. Stalker 3. Roadblock 4. Chuckles 5. Low-Light 6. Tunnel Rat 7. Big Brawler The thing about a unit like this - Intelligence would be a key component. Really important. So as great as Snake-Eyes is, his inability to communicate really becomes a liability in the field. I also think having a female for certain missions is not a bad idea: diversions, intel gathering, etc. A woman can be very helpful... Scarlett or Lady Jaye would be excellent choices for that role. Having a SEAL in the mix isn't a bad idea either. Torpedo has always been the best of them, in my opinion. The C.I.A.'s Special Activities Division usually uses teams of 6 - just like Marine Force Recon, and the Navy SEALs. Claymore and Falcon are both excellent choices for a combat team leader, however, their one liability is their rank: Officers are higher profile than enlisted personnel. My point is that for a unit like this, an Officer might go into the feild every now and then, but a Warrant Officer would be a much better choice. Besides, if this unit needed back up, or a diversion for extraction, Falcon would need to be able to lead Night Force... just like Delta Force backs up the SAD. Flint would be my pick for a field leader. And if I have Flint, I wouldn't really have so much use for Duke. I'd probably go with Beach-Head as my team Sgt. Stalker would be a great choice if you didn't like Beach-Head, but Beach-Head has always seemed a little tougher to me... though, it's a really close call. Field Team - Flint Beach-Head Roadblock Kamakura Big Brawler Low-Light - Chuckles and Lady Jaye are "ad hoc" per mission requirements. Just a suggestion if you're putting together a "Ghost Squad". It's a little different from my roster, but I think it works. Marine Deadpool's Custom ODA Team would be a great "Ghost Squad".

I don't like either Flint or Shipwreck out of the 5-pack, the faces just don't do it for me.
I grabbed Lady Jaye out of the DVD pack. I probably won't get this 5-pack since none of the figures are really anything I need/want. Is Shipwreck listed as a Sailor or did they make it SEaL? |

So I just picked up the new Joe 5 pack. Ultimately I only wanted Flint with corrected Gloves and since I didn't have Lady Jaye It was worth it. Shipwreck looks better, but I think the movie Shipwreck will be my default when I get one. One thing I noticed is Flint is listed as WO-2 for once with this outfit. His highest rank is TIger Force as W-3. Also Shipwreck is given SCPO this go round which he hadn't been since V5
Once they started making "modern era" figures that had nothing to do with the 80's toys... like "Flint in Cobra Disguise" I had hoped they would change it. Flint should be a CW-5. Just like Duke should be a CSM... but they don't ask me about writing the file cards. I think Hasbro - Not DDP; Not IDW; Not even Larry Hama (though he could help) - Hasbro needs to hire some Military consultants and release a book that fixes the problems with rank, continuity, training qualifications, etc. It needs to be comprehensive for every character in the Joeverse. If they did it right, I would be willing to shell out $40-$50 for something like that.

Anyone reading the new X-Force comic? In it, Wolverine leads a "secret" team that does the dirty missions. Cyclops keeps 'em under wraps from the other X-Men. If there's someone Cyclops wants taken off the board, he calls in X-Force. They can't even tell the other X-Men what they're up to. They do what is necessary to get the job done.
That's what the Joe black ops team would be. I've always seen Beachhead as tougher then Stalker to. Claymore would be the Cyclops role. Hawk gives him the missions, he passes it on to the team. Flint - field leader Beachhead Low-Light Mercer Kamakura Snake-Eyes Torpedo Lady Jaye Chuckles would be the only other Joe to know about 'em, as he's usually the guy in the field undercover. I think a squad like this is the best place for Snake-Eyes. Even though he can't talk, that's a liability in any role really, this seems the natural place for his abilities.

I hate when Hasbro has added stuff to the filecards to relate to the "situation". The DVD Pack guys all have things added that relate to the movie they come with. Just stick with the old cards and fix the issues, then it's good. But what am I going to do with so many Dukes, Cobra Commanders, Destros, Storm Shadows and Snake-Eyes?

I don't know if Mercer is really skilled enough. I understand his background as a former Cobra... but he was just a Viper. If you want Snake-Eyes, fair enough, but why Snake-Eyes and Kamakura? Do you really need two Ninjas?

We may have done this before but who would your 12 man roster be if you had to reform the Joe Team? This is probably more of Who are your favorite characters, than what would be practical. All this Ghost Squad talk I start thinking what would be the Ideal original 13.
myfavorites team: Gung-Ho Leatherneck Beachhead Torpedo Wet-Suit Snake-Eyes Claymore Flint Falcon Duke Stalker Tunnel-Rat Practical: Claymore Snake-Eyes Duke Flint Beachhead Mercer Stalker Chuckles Mace Shockwave Rapid-Fire Torpedo |

So Forward Observers are to artillery what Combat Controllers are to air support?
So these guys wouldn't be part of the Recon/Covert Ops group. They'd be attached to the armor/cavarly units and deploy with them. In the field they'd then be attached to the Recon guys, to go in and scout out the locations and tag the targets. Kind of funny, Transformers got something right with the military. They had the Combat Controller attached to the Ranger squad. |

I hear what you're saying about Chuckles... fair point.
I don't know if Mercer is really skilled enough. I understand his background as a former Cobra... but he was just a Viper. If you want Snake-Eyes, fair enough, but why Snake-Eyes and Kamakura? Do you really need two Ninjas? For this squad? Yeah. They aren't really redundant. Both aren't "just" ninjas. And it's the best use/place for their combined skill sets. So it's more of a "have access to both of 'em, why not use 'em". I chose Mercer cause out of all the Joes, I see him as being the most willing to fight dirty.
