Well I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that hated the SHARC. I haven't bought the new one precisely because I still can't get over its stupidity.
I think guys like Cross Country, Wild Card, Dodger and Blocker would belong in a mechanized recon platoon, even though I hate the BF 2000 vehicles. I've replaced these with Forces of Valor and 21st Century Bradleys and M113 APCs. I don't mind the Joe armor and artillery because they can be useful to support some of their missions, which are mostly Delta-ish, small-scale and covert, but sometimes when all hell breaks loose they may need to drop in some armor to expedite their escape or they may need to call in some artillery. Obviously they could never play the role of a tank division much less a company, but they can mix it up some. |

Since the Army typically employs humvees or HMMWVs with TOWs as anti-armor weapon platforms, I think the AWE, Desert Fox, Crossfire and other light or fast attack vehicles would serve well in this role. The Wolverine seems best suited for Air Defense or Anti-Aircraft, like the M-163 VADS or M-6 linebacker or M-1097 Avenger.

As for CBR organization, see the sample below. The Army Field Manual uses the designation NBC and the Joe file cards mention CBR, but CBRN (Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear) is the latest designator.
A heavy division NBC recon platoon has an HQ and 3 recon squads. The HQ consists of the platoon leader (74A chemical officer) and platoon sergeant (54B, which is now 74D) and they ride in two of the squad’s vehicles. Each recon squad is made up of nine men: a squad leader, assistant squad leader, and the crews that man two M93 NBCRSs or M113A2 APCs per squad. The APCs and M93 will eventually be replaced by Strykers. Each vehicle can operate independently of the platoon. The total is one officer and 19 enlisted men and six vehicles in a platoon. Since the Joes work on a small scale, they wouldn’t need a platoon or even a squad to suit their operations. In fact, it only takes a four-man crew to operate an M93 “Fox”: a vehicle commander, a driver, an MM1 operator, and a probe and sample arm operator. The M93 is armed with an M240E1 7.62mm machinegun and two M250 smoke grenade launchers. It can enter water and swim without stopping for external preparation. Rear propellers steer and move the vehicle in the water at a constant speed of 6.5 mph; however, the vehicle wheels enable it to swim at 2.5 mph without use of the propellers. The Warthog would be a perfect substitute for an M93 and Airtight and Flash could serve as operators. Any Joe vehicle driver could drive the Warthog and the vehicle commander could be any NCO who would also be responsible for manning the vehicle's weapons. And of course you could include Ozone and Clean-Sweep if you don't mind using those cheese dicks.

I like the look of the Sharc, but I don't buy it as an aircraft. It's a highspeed submersable. I could see it being able to operate as a ground effect craft, but it still wouldn't bne able to get more than five or 10 feet off the ground/surface of the water.

Actually, I may have been a bit hasty on this. I've been looking for a real vehicle that most closely resembles the Wolverine and I think I found it. Check out the M270 MLRS. It fires 12 surface-to-surface rockets and each rocket warhead contains 644 M77 bomblets that explode over its target. Other warheads can contain 28 anti-tank mines. This weapon system seems more like artillery than air defense.
The Wolverine blueprints state that the rockets are ground to ground so maybe this would fit better in artillery. |

Lots of cool stuff coming from Toyfair. Those 7 packs are sweet.
I still think Joe works best in the assault team format. The team would be every unit in a "compact" and manageable size.

I agree. But do you think the basic team should be organized like the Special Forces? In other words, each team has the equivalent of a Special Forces Officer or Warrant Officer as the team leader, followed by an Operations or Assistant Operations and Intelligence Sergeant, a Weapons Sergeant, an Engineering Sergeant, a Medical Sergeant, and a Communications Sergeant.

If the reports of no more waves of carded figures/comic packs/vehicles until after the movie are true, I'll be very disappointed. The 7 packs are damn near perfect - and will probably have a LOT of custom potential. (I love Outback's web gear - I hope he still has that in the final product!)
