For a group of supposedly lethal terrorists, they weren't that good at killing important people. I'm just saying. Then again, maybe I'm just still complaining about DDP.

Loose Cannon, I hear what you're saying. I know that in the past you've said you use Duke as Colonel. I'm NOT trying to tell you what to do with your Joes; I just can't see Duke as anything but an outstanding NCO. I completely agree that the Team needs a Command Sergeant Major - I just can't see any NCO's above Duke. I use Duke as my Command Sergeant Major. And if we use your formula of about 100 Joes, that's about how many soldiers a Company First Sergeant would be over anyway.
I completely see how your formula works, and I think it's a good set up. Makes a lot of sense and offers an excellent system of organization. I also agree that you would need at least 100 Joes to deal with a world wide terrorist Army like Cobra. I mean, seriously, are 12 Special Forces soldiers going to deal with a Battalion of HISS Tanks? Maybe. But then to have to jet around the world the same 12 soldiers deal with a Battalion of the Crimson Guard? And then to deal with 2 Companies of Alley Vipers laying siege to a city? Really? I think you get my point. 12 people can only do so much. I use Hawk as my overall commanding General I use Flint as my Chief Warrant Officer (CW-5) I use Duke as my NCOIC (CSM E-9) Duke and Flint would function like a top NCO and a Chief Warrant Officer should - the eyes and ears (or right and left hand, if you prefer) of the Command team. They make it happen, but they are not interchangeable. They work to together in a complementary role. That's my own take on how Duke should work. I really hated how they tried to turn him into a spy in DDP. Of the two of them, if anyone would have been recruited by C.I.A., it would have been Flint. Duke is just old school Army. He is the Airborne Infantry. But I'm interested in your idea of a different CSM. Who would you put in that position over Duke and Stalker? But who can outrank Duke or Stalker? Duke seems even less tough in the new relaunch. I think Duke, Stalker, Gung-Ho, Beachhead, Leatherneck, and Skydive (or insert favorite NCO) should be Squad 1st Sgts, and each of the Six Squads can be deployed as needed. Probably have a Seal Team and a Snow Squad as well. Then Flint can serve as Chief Warrant officer, but these 6-8 teams will need more 6-8 more XOs, which for Special Forces are usually CW2 and CW3 and 6-8COs which would be Lts, Capts and maybe a Major in there. Then what about the Armor? |

So if Batman is so tough and Two-Face gives him a hard time, then Two-Face should be able to mop the floor with most of the Justice League. It's just bad writing. I like having the non-powered man be so feared and respected by the "god"-like powered people. It gives the books a nice balance and kind of grounds them. Doesn't make 'em seem so tough. But if the non-powered is going to be so tough, then make him that way in all books.

I know this much, the Red Shadows were supposed to be really tough and they had a lot of trouble killing anybody. I mean they killed some good people: Lady Jaye, Rampart, Hardball, Glenda, Tracker/Action Man, Big Boa, etc. But Wilder Vaughn shot General Colton at point blank range and Colton lived. They attacked Cobra Commander and the Twins in an enclosed cavern, and they lived.
For a group of supposedly lethal terrorists, they weren't that good at killing important people. I'm just saying. Then again, maybe I'm just still complaining about DDP. Dela Eden must be a bad shot and pretty damn stupid to have shot all 3, thought she killed 'em, and then walked off. For some big-bad terrorist, she sure doesn't check her kills.

I guess I just grew up with Duke and Flint and it was always hard for me to have guys outrank them. So I promoted them. Duke just doesn't seem as tough as he should be. Accept at the beginning he never struck me as the tough as nails guy. Or any tougher than Stalker who has been my Sgt major since I booted Duke up the Chain. But he should be the CSM. I want like Nick Fury as the CSM. I think there needs to be a different guy altogether.
Then what about the Armor? I use my Sub Teams A LOT. Tiger Force or Night Force or Sky Patrol or Desert Patrol Squad. One of those teams is usually the first to respond because they're able to deploy more quickly. Plus they're easy to use because Hasbro has done all the work of rosters and command for me - pretty much. Then, all I have to do is use my Regular Joe Army/Navy/Air Force as a support element. My regular Joe Army is Commanded by General Flagg and Colonel Courage is his X-O/S-3. Rock & Roll is the Regular Army SGM I then break the Regular Joe Army down into branches: Infantry, Armor, Artillery, and Logistics/Support Infantry: Major Bullet Proof is the Commander Grunt is first SGT. - Captain Grid-Iron commands the Rangers under Bullet Proof Armor: Major Steeler (The guy has been in the unit forever and he need a promotion) Heavy Metal is First Sgt. Artillery: Major Barrage Long Range is First Sgt. Logistics/Support: Major Storm Toll Booth is First Sgt. Sometimes Green Shirts fill in the ranks as needed, but every Army Joe that isn't in a special sub team is assigned to one of these units based on specialty.

I hear ya. It was never explained how CC and Tomax (was it Tomax or Xamot that "lived" and the other was in a coma?" survived.

I don't mind that Captain America or Batman is hanging with the JLA and Avengers, it's just when they then go back (in their own books) and have a tough time with common thugs... That's when I have issues.

Exactly. And I love how the Red Shadows had augmentations. Great writing to make 'em tougher. /sigh

Yeah! The Joes are just fine to deal with BATs and Neo-Vipers, but watch out for these crazy Red Shadow augmentations! Give me a break. Jerwa should have never touched the franchise. They should have gotten somebody good like Paul Dini. That guy can write a comic book.

About Batman, I understand what you're saying but I will have to politely disagree. I still read Batman and Detective Comics every month and I love it... too bad about the current story line. However, Batman is rarely written well in JLA and it just doesn't fit. He's the worlds finest detective and perhaps the best marital artist... I don't care how many boards he can break, that doesn't mean he can run with GL, Flash, Superman, John Jones, and Wonder Woman. Batman is great, but he's best when he's in Gotham City fighting criminals.
I like Batman best as written by Grant Morrison in the JLA - he's the guy who scared the crap out of the White Martians because he's the one who figured them out when the rest of the League didn't/couldn't. He's the guy who does the League's tactics from afar. Quote:

That's why I've never been able to get into Batman, the two "faces" so to speak.
On one hand, he's a street-level guy, can get surprised and taken out by normal everyday thugs. On the other hand, he's able to stand up to Superman. Which is he? Pick one. How he's handled in JLA depends entirely on the writer. Some can make it work and some can't. I like when it works. When, here's a normal unpowered guy, and he scares the crap out of guys on Superman-level. I love when that works, and it has before in the past (not reading JLA currently, so not sure if the current writer is making it work). It's always the problem with guys like Batman, Green Arrow, Captain America, Hawkeye, etc.. How to balance the street-level nature and still make 'em take on cosmic-level. It just doesn't work. Has to be one or the other. Green Arrow is still a punk with a bow and arrow, though.
