Wouldn't Shipwreck man one of the guns? He's a gunner's mate. I thought that was his job.

Theoretically, you could crew a WHALE with Cutter, Shipwreck, Topside, and Rampart. That wouldn't take away from the rest of the team. The recon sled could be used by Torpedo or Wet Suit.

I have thought of a "boat team" comprised of those four. Part of my indecisiveness has been where to ultimately place Shipwreck. Should he be a former SEAL assigned to my SCUBA Troop or a former SWCC assigned to my Maritime Mobility Squadron?

Shipwreck's a sailor with SEAL training in my opinion. He operates the guns on the WHALE and SS Flagg or pilots the boat that delivers and extracts the JOE SEALs and frogmen. Wish I knew more about how the Navy operates.

The issue with how his later filecards presented him with "SEAL training" is if an individual goes through selection then BUDS training they are required to join one of the SEAL teams for a specific period of time. Shipwreck would have had to been with them a few years before even getting back into the Joes (provided his CO would even let him).

Back to Short-Fuze: I figured a way around him needing a mortar team (at least when he's on a mission that involves hoofing it). The 1984 Mortar Defense Unit came with an "EX-335 60mm Light Weight Company Mortar." It remarkably resembles the 60mm 99 Antos Ultralight Mortar, which only weighs 11 lbs. and can be operated by one person! It's even used by paratroopers and Special Forces! It's perfect for Short-Fuze when he's slogging through jungles and has no vehicle available. Plus, he carries his own ammunition on his back. Partner him up with an ammo carrying buddy and he's an awesome addition to any infantry team!

I never figured the mortar Short Fuse used for being anything other than a lightweight man-portable single-man weapon.

Unfortunately, the action figure came with the M-1 81mm medium mortar. In reality, it's heavy and composed of three separate parts that are lugged by a trio of soldiers onto the battlefield. The troops often used special carts and even pack animals to lug it and the extra ammo needed around! The 60mm combat mortar is much lighter and only needs one soldier to operate it, though it's not as accurate as the bipedal, heavier ones. (This wouldn't be a problem for Short-Fuze though, since he's a logistics genius.)

Short Fuse needs a vehicle really. But his Mortar looks small. More like the M2 60mm mortar than the M1 as is listed. It's funny how the Forward Observer Set mortar is X-29 55mm but seems even bigger than that. Not sure 55mm is a mortar caliber. The M29 is an 81mm mortar.
