Happy New Year All!
Tyroc I hope you and your loved ones are staying safe down there. My thoughts go to all affected by these fires. |

I'm based in Canberra, our capital which I guess is kind of our version of DC. It's the center of politics and the civil service (I work for the government) but I've been spending my annual leave with my folks in South Australia. There was a major fire on the other side of the hill behind my parent's place. In the lead up to Christmas, we had no power on Saturday, no cell / internet service on Sunday and Monday, no water on Tuesday (Christmas Eve). Then we got evacuated on Christmas Eve. We were allowed back home at about 10pm Christmas Eve. Canberra is actually worse. There are no major fires but the smoke from everywhere else has made our town the most polluted in the world for about a week now, trumping any cities in India and China. Most places have had to close because of the fumes. Still both places have been far better off than others. I've lived through bushfires before, it's nothing new but the severity and the heat is not normal. Many people have died, scores of wildlife have perished and many homes and properties have been destroyed. The enormity and scale is beyond anything we've faced. I have friends who went home to the Victorian Gippsland area to spend Christmas with their families and had to flee to the nearby beaches before being evacuated by the Navy. I've been extremely heartened by the outpouring of support from the international community and just ordinary people from around the world. I just hope that we as a nation and a global community can learn from the many missteps that certain parts of our government (both federal, state and local) have made and learn from them. I won't go into any of the political or climate stuff because I don't want to derail the thread or bring anything political here. This thread has been a very welcome respite from the insanity of the real world and from the rest of the 'Tank (or as Oliver used to call it 'Gen Pop'). Thanks again for your kind wishes, it means alot |

Getting back to Joes
Has anyone seen this Battlegrounds Card? I've never thought of Stretcher as an Arctic / Cold Weather specialist but after seeing this card, and the fact he has a sled, it kind of makes sense. https://gijoebattleground.fandom.com/wiki/Stretcher_UC1 |

Thanks John, I really appreciate it.

Stay safe Tyroc! Quote:

It makes sense that he would have cold weather training. I use Ice Storm v2 as my Troop Medic on my Mountain Team whereas I use Stretcher as the Troop Medic in my Mobility Troop. I was using a play on his "Medical Transportation" military specialty. |

Yeah. Stretcher's sled thingy always confuses me. He's a weightlifting rescue medic who rides a tiny sled that can't even carry anyone wounded. I can only see it working in snow or water, but to what purpose, I don't know... Just like Muskrat's boogie board.

Anybody know how Airtight's sniffer works? What, he just goes up to sludge, sucks it up, and gets a reading on it? I guess the contaminants are sucked into his backpack and processed there?

If Airtight is testing a sludge, the process and equipment is different… more of a test kit looking for a chemical reaction. His equipment for gas chromatography analysis works differently. Airtight’s HECR (Hazardous Environment Containment Rifle) a.k.a. Sniffer uses a hose connected to his Compressor Pack (or Filtration Pack) to create a negative air flow to the analyzing equipment contained inside the handheld HECR, where they are processed. The agents would never enter his helmet, suit, or filtration pack. A safer and more logical way of doing it came with the retail 2011 action figure of the 30th Anniversary line, G.I. Joe Renegades Kurt “Airtight” Schnurr (Hostile Environment Specialist). That toy included an easily recognizable sculpted Smiths Detection HGVI (Hazardous Gas & Vapor Identifier), which would work okay for civilian first responder scenes. If Airtight were in the US Army, he would be using the M4 JCAD (Joint Chemical Agent Detector). That’s okay, because it’s still an improvement over his 1985 Sniffer. If you want to know how this works, watch this video at about the 1:45 minute mark to learn more about the Smiths Detection HGVI.

Wow. Thank you. All these years I couldn't wrap my head around that sniffer and how it worked with the backpack. I've never seen him use it in the comics or cartoon show. I'd love to see a situation where he needed it.

Yes, I think I do, but how much do you need to know?

Most all of my CBRN training originates from MCB Camp Lejeune, MCAGCC, and MCAS Miramar. I’ve had refresher courses at many other locations, but the best training I’ve received came from those three. Oorah!
