So other than Sgt. David Brewi (D-Day), MSgt. Robert Savage, and Sgt. Hector Garrido (Dynamite), are there any other WWII Joes? I believe Grill, Head Banger, Tank, and Mouse were modern-day teammates of Savage's Screaming Eagles, but I suppose they could be used to build a WWII unit. There aren't any other characters identified in the Screaming Eagles mini comics so it's not a great source. I know there was also a 12-inch line of Joes that incorporated Sgt. Rock, Bulldozer, Little Sure Shot, Jackie Johnson, Wildman, and Mademoiselle Marie, but know very little about them. Were they all characters from the Sgt. Rock comics? Were there any other characters from that series that could be used to build a WWII unit? I'd like to build a team using Marauder's WWII figures.

As for Sgt Rock, Dreams and Visions licensed DC characters and Joe molds to make their line in the early 2000's. Apart from Rock and Easy Company, they made the Unknown Soldier, Enemy Ace (WWI) and Black Hawk (but not the other Blackhawks). They also made female figures; Mademoiselle Marie and Madame Fear. I believe had they continued there were plans for Haunted Tank as well. In terms of the Easy Company figures, those characters were definitely part of the comic book. Easy Company had a wide ever-changing roster, most of whom were red-shirt type characters. Here's a list with some more names https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Easy_Company_(comics) The 12" line made a large number of WWII figures, I have a list somewhere but all my hard drives are packed up because of the fires we're having in Oz right now. I'll hopefully have access to them over the weekend so I can post a list of 12" WWII figures for you In the meantime, I suggest checking out Hisstank member Oreobuilder's blog spot. He did some modern customs of the original 1960's 12" Joes (many of which were inspired by WWII era weapons and equipment) Oreobuilder's Blog: 50th Anniversary Day 1: Action Soldier |

Another recommendation from me for reading: X Platoon by Steve Heaney MC and Damien Lewis. It's a second book by the guy who wrote Operation Mayhem about the Pathfinders in Sierra Leone. Like Maverick One by Dave Blakely, it goes into his early life and career in the Paras and then Selection into the PF and his time in the unit and some time when he was back in the Paras in Kosovo in '99.
So, the complete Cap Recommended Reading List: X Platoon and Operation Mayhem by Steve Heaney MC Pathfinder and Maverick One by David Blakely Apache and Hellfire by Ed Macy (Apache attack helo pilot) The Operatives by James Rennie (14 Company undercover surveillance) Fire Strike 7/9 by Paul Grahame (JTAC in Afghanistan) |

I think Savage was the only WWII character, he was awakened from suspended animation and was assigned duty to rehabilitate 6 fuck up NCO's who all had individual skills the Army didn't want to lose. D-Day and Dynamite were part of them. I know that the IDW comic by Fred Van Lente tried to retcon the Screaming Eagles to be a WWII team but it doesn't make sense. D-Day would make a nonsensical call sign for a WW 2 era character.

I bought a kindle version, looking forward to reading it (sometime). Thanks for the recommendation. I don't know whether you guys are into fiction but I'm half way thru a book called 'Clandestine' by Isaac Hooke. It's about a contract operator and ex-DEVGRU SEAL with the DIA's Defense Clandestine Service who infiltrates ISIS in Yemen and Syria. It's very very good and quite realistic. https://www.goodreads.com/series/159676-ethan-galaal Oh, and this thread may be of interest to some, it's about the head sculpt likenesses of some of the Joes. http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-jo...=1#post5244773 Last edited by Tyroc; 01-05-2020 at 12:08 PM.. |
