British Army's something like 75 to 80 thousand personnel. Thanks to our dumbass government's cuts, poor recruitment thanks to the government out-sourcing it to a private company and so on. The wankers couldn't organise a piss-up in a brewery as my Dad said.

Wow, those are interesting numbers. I would've thought the Royal Navy was much bigger than that. 35,650 personnel seems small but I guess they've only got three carriers.

no, we've got ONE carrier. HMS Queen Elizabeth. The HMS Prince of Wales isn't in service yet and the dozy fuckwits in government want to scrap the other flat-top we have which is an amphibious assault ship.

Scary to think if Cobra is the same size as the British military. The power projections would be enormous. France is about the same. Everyone else in Europe is smaller. If say Amazon becomes so big they venture into providing security services world wide, buy an island, and start selling Prime memberships and satellite services, and Government security(with veteran soldiers) things could get real. Not sure what I would do with $100 Billion. Take over the world?

Quality over quantity. We were out-numbered in the Falklands, thousands of miles from home and we stomped the Argentines asses because our guys were professional, well trained, and highly motivated soldiers up against conscripts who were barely trained and didn't want to be there.

So how does the UK organize naval task forces? Is it similar to the US? Do they have ships organized into a carrier strike group or an amphibious ready group?

There is that line a nation crosses when trying to find a balance of too much or too less money spent on national security. Case in point (for both of us really, highly motivated to protect the homeland, against a not so motivate highly trained, professional foe) when y'all had the opportunity to manufacture a ton of Super-marine Spitfires before WWII was thought to even be a possibility. It was refused because of cost and the idea the UK did not need a lot of these pricey (compared to the Hawker Hurricane) fighters sitting around. Fast forward 5 years and Britain was scrambling to find used parts and make new aircraft to carry on the war effort. Last edited by F14 Tomcat; 04-18-2019 at 03:12 PM.. |

the Royal Navy has, for the past few decades, been more of an ASW force than anything else. There were some kinda carrier groups around HMS Invincible, HMS Ark Royal and HMS Illustrious, but they kinda went bye-bye when the carriers were scrapped before Big Lizzie came into service. Their supposed to have created a new carrier group around the new carrier, but personnel shortages thanks to the aforementioned stupid-ass cuts means we can't field all the ships we need.
