Thanks, The last time I did a count I was around 1,821 to 1,964. My intention was to include every named Joe, hence all the Colonels & Generals. But I figure each Battalion could be its own team. For instance:

General Hawk - Commander
General Rey - Field Commander to the Main Teams (Tiger Force, Night Force, etc.)
General Flagg - Field Commander to the Combined Arms (Mechanized Infantry & Armor)
Keel-Haul - Field Commander to Air/Sea Support (Fighters & the Sub).

I hope this makes sense as I’m writing this while sick at work.

Technically all of them. But I am sure that would be a lot to post. Maybe start at the staff positions (S1, S2, etc). I'm really curious to see who you have in those positions.

The only named Joes in Staff are just the Officers.

S1 - Colonel Courage
S2 - Mister Clancy (G.I. Joe Extreme, Agent K MiB figure)
S3 - Colonel Trautman (Rambo, Hawk RoC Figure)
S4 - Louie Louie (Fury Force, Larry Hame Kickstarter Figure; whenever it gets completed)
S5 - Hannibal (A-Team, movie figure)
S6 - Colonel Sharpe (no figure atm)

Sorry but all of the Staff Sections are Steel Brigade Troopers “Greenshirts”

Steel Brigade Commanders - Officers
Steel Brigade Paratroopers - Special Forces
Steel Brigade Troopers - Greenshirts
Steel Brigade Delta - Vehicle Operators

Ooo. Louie Louie. I just put two and two together. I meant to ask about how you guys might be using the Hama Figure and some others. I am trying to figure out how I might incorporate some of the more recent offerings of Civilian Clothed figured. Zombie Lab, Hama, and but especially the Latest MTF Suits and Contractor figures. Do I add a separate say SAD detachment to the Joes? or incorporate them throughout the squadrons like the American version of Crimson Guards?

So here is my layout of how I handle all the O-5's and above, which are many, in the more command roles. My theory is I don't like spending a lot of time figuring out what to do with them. But I like the idea that some of these Generals/Colonels could show up on/near the battlefield without upsetting the Troop structures that don't require more than an (O-4) to command. However, their presence would be used mostly to grease the wheels for logistic support for their deployed teams or outright temporary command of the Area of Operations (AOO). Payload and Skystriker are missing since they command Airwings, but most of the many Troop teams spread throughout the 6 squadrons are commanded by Majors (O-4).

Battle Research Special Weapons Force:(Sigma SIX)

General Lawrence J. Flagg (O-8) Juggler/Handler (NOT DEAD!)

General Rey (O-7) Roving Regional Commander
Colonel Henry Jones Jr. (O-6) Deputy Roving Regional Commander (Materials Research)
Colonel Mike Powers (O-6) (Vehicle Technology)
Lt Colonel Jane Ann Martelle (O-5)(Computational/Information Sciences)
Lt Colonel Boffin (O-5) (Weapons Research)

"The MOVEMENT"

Major General Sharpe (O-8) USMC - Juggler/Handler

The Jackel (SAD Deputy Director) SES II (O-7 Equivalent) - Roving Regional Station Chief {Custom}
Roughshot (O-6) USMC Deputy Roving Regional Commander - Operations {Nick Fury as Bronze Bomber}
Hannibal Smith (O-6) Deputy Roving Regional Commander - Planning
Francis Lynch (O-5) - Intelligence
Sure-Fire (O-5) - Security

Mountain Task Force:

General Hollingsworth (O-8) Juggler/Handler

General Iron-Bear (O-7) Russian Forces Commanding Officer
Doc (O-6) Chief Surgeon / Base Commander (CO) (I figure DOC is good at paperwork)
Tactics (O-5) USMC Operations / Deputy Commander (XO)

Coalition Armored Recon Mobility Squadron:

Gen Austin (O-9) Juggler / Handler

General James Longstreet Flagg III (O-7) Roving Regional Commander
Colonel Courage (O-6) Deputy Roving Regional Commander
Colonel Eagle (O-6) Intelligence Chief (Blonde Hawk - USMC)
Billdocker (O-5) Logistics

Coalition Maritime Expeditionary Recon Force {SMERF} (Littoral/Jungle):

Adm Keel-Haul (O-9) - Juggler Handler

Adm Ledger (O-7) - Roving Regional Commander
Col Trautman (O-6) - Deputy Roving Regional Commander
Cmd Magnum (O-5) - Operations

AIRBORNE:

Colton (O-10) - Juggler Handler

Hawk (O-7) - Roving Regional Commander
Col. Braddock (O-6) - Deputy Roving Regional Commander - Operations
Col. Trent (O-6) (Action Force) - Deputy Roving Regional Commander - Planning
Cmd. Bond (O-5) - Intelligence
Loose Cannon (O-5) Forward Air Controllers/ANGLICO - Signals

I've been trying to work this out also. My Joe teams are mostly split between AFO "Recon teams" and Direct Action "Assault Teams". I think I'm going to add two Mech Suits to each of the Assault Teams.

They will be used similarly to how the Pioneers are used in this game: Pioneers | EndWar Wiki | FANDOM powered by Wikia

"Pioneers are essentially a blending of traditional battlefield engineers and heavy infantry. They can provide an extra punch on the battlefield to help give infantry a fighting chance against vehicles and gunships.

JSF Pioneers can be equipped with the APE-1A2, a revolutionary new exoskeleton developed specifically for the JSF by a private U.S. military contractor. The APE-1A2 allows its user to carry triple his or her body weight. For extreme firepower Pioneers can become support gunners by pairing their exoskeletons with a devastating man-portable microgun that fires the same 6.8mm rounds as the SCAR A1. The combination of high firepower, armor, and exoskeletons can turn a single Pioneer into a walking gun turret."

I didn't even buy any Exo-Suits, but I would almost assume I would have them in my Special Weapons Force/Sigma SIX teams. Kickstart is there as well as a STARK Industries Battle Robot.

Currently I have various types of Troop/Platoon/team break-outs depending on the Squadron they are in. Roughly 60(door Kickers)-80 personnel per Squadron

AIRBORNE:
Air Support:
Recon Team (Pathfinders): (x)24 man
Combat Control Team: (x)24 man

Coalition Maritime Expeditionary Recon Force (Littoral/Jungle)
Air Wing:
SEAL/SBS Team: (x)13 man
SWCC: (x)13 man
Recon Team 1 (Raiders): (x)13 man MARINES
Recon Team 2 (Predators): (x)13 man ARMY

Armored Recon Mobility Squadron
Artillery: (x)8 man
Armor: (x)26 man
Mechanized Cavalry: (x)24 man

Mountain Task Force:
Air Support:
Mountain Troop:(x)20 man
Arctic Squad:(x)12 man
Oktober Guard:(x)25 man

"The MOVEMENT"
Command and Control Team (x)10 man
Assault Team:(x)16 man
Intelligence Team:(x)18 man
Security Team:(x)13 man

Battle Research Special Weapons Force:
Air Support:
Assault Troop:(x)28 man
Engineers Troop:(x)28 man

I really am talking about the Contract OP and the Agency OP figures from Marauders. I only bought a few but those 5 new figures open up a lot of possibilities.

Hi Guys, happy belated X-mas and New Years to everyone, regulars and lurkers alike

Loose and DH, I love your troop breakdowns

As for how combat engineers fit into a special operations unit, this is my understanding;

Combat engineers in specops perform more or less the same functions as that in a regular infantry / airborne / stryker brigade that is; mobility (blow stuff up in the way) and counter-mobility (blow stuff up so it gets in the way), bypass, mark and breach obstacles, assistance to ground forces in the assault of fortified positions, conduct route reconnaissance, identify and clear explosive hazards and emplace obstacles and construct / enhance survivability (ie dig fighting holes / trenches / sandbag forts etc.

Pre-GWOT, the Rangers would have a non-organic engineer platoon attached for things like construction of targets (houses / encampments) for assault training, demolitions of larger objects (all Rangers are demo trained so they were only used for larger structures or for more surgical strikes). During larger operations (Grenada and Panama), engineers were attached for airfield and runway repair.

Post GWOT, sappers were assigned first to the Support Companies and later each Battalion HQ. The Sappers would do all the above plus things like topographic and geo-spatial analysis, engineering reconnaissance, improvised and low level construction (bare base building), UAV airfield and landing strip construction, limited bridging, decoy construction during deception operations. Sappers are also individually augmented to each of the platoons to serve as Master Breachers.

Each Ranger Support company also has a small engineering support platoon (carpenters, masonry specialists, plumbers, electricians) who construct and maintain the mission support sites and forward operating bases.

The SF units don't need organic sappers because they have their engineering Sergeants but each Battalion Support Company has a small engineering support platoon for base support.

The Special Operations Sustainment Brigade has engineering support platoons in each of their companies for base support as well.

Each Marine Raider Support Company has a small Combat Engineer Squad to perform similar functions like that of the Rangers. They only have general engineering support at the Battalion level. Which is why Marine forward bases are generally more 'bare bones' and spartan than that of ARSOF.

The Navy has SEABEES instead of Combat Engineers but they perform similar functions. Each SEAL Squadron has a team of Seabees in their Combat Service Support Team (CSST) which dis-aggregates into a team of 9-11 Seabees into each Combat Service Support Detachment (CSSD) in each SEAL Troop.

The Air Force doesn't have Combat Engineers either, they have Civil Engineer groups (REDHORSE and Prime BEEF) who are primarily focused on airfield and rapid runway construction and repair.

In terms of JSOC, Delta / CAG has a general Engineer support company attached to their Support Squadron (I read the Support Company Commander's profile on Linkedin) and they have a Heavy Breaching or Specialized Entry Troop in their Combat Support Squadron. Breachers are derived from 12b and SF 18C's and their focus is on getting the assault troop to their objective. They carry all the detcord, explosive charges and breaching equipment so that the assaulters (who also have demo and breach training) can concentrate on shooting.

Breachers are also a bit more specialized than just basic demolitions too. They tend to be more surgical in their scope because their focus is on gaining entry with minimal losses of hostages. They also focus on larger obstacles like hard and deeply buried targets/bunkers, WMD sites and such.

Don't know if it helps but I have a small CIA element attached to my Joe team. It allows the Joes to conduct Title 50 (covert actions) operations vs Title 10 (JSOC) operations. I have a small group of 'Omega Teams'

https://www.gijobs.com/badasses-make-up-omega-teams/

which are blended JSOC / CIA teams (Hammer Team from DDP and the Extreme guys) supported by CIA Special Activities personnel like Agent Anderson and Cullen Esterhazy. Some of those contractors I can use as stand ins for some CIA security goons from IDW called Chip, Trip and John John from GI Joe Origins #8 and some of the SAD personnel from ARAH # 225

I'll be using the TV show 'The Brave' as inspiration for the Omega team organization and 13 Hours for the SAD Ground Branch / Global Response Staff organization.
