It's kind of a chicken-or-the-egg discussion as to whether the toys influenced the comic or vice versa. It's probably a little of both.
The toy line had a great run but it became so bloated towards the end. It's longevity may have worked against it in a wierd way. The kids who liked G.I. Joe from say 82-87 (namely, us) were not really the same kids who liked it in the 90s. I was 7 in 1982. By 1987 I was 12 and moving away from toys quickly. I think Hasbro had to scramble to appeal to a new group of kids and they lost sight of what made the toys great in the first place. The line got away from them and collapsed under its own weight. The comic had a similar problem. It became overly complicated and goofy while trying to tie everyone to Snake Eyes. Serpentor was a little hard to swallow but believable enough and there seemed to be alot of concurrency between the comics and the cartoon through that period. But the Cobra-La story deviated from reality way too much. And it made Serpentor even more unbelievable. I was out of the country from 89 through 91 and so I missed most of the comics and the cartoons during that period. The comics I was able to pick up seemed to still be great. Then I get back in time for issue 115 that sort of wraps up the Battle of Benzheen. Within a year it all falls apart. There were still some cool characters but that turned up but not many made it into the comics. Perhaps it was too hard to keep the 200 or so joe characters and the 100 or so Cobras involved with the ongoing story? |

So are there some Joes and/or Cobras that you just "ignore"?
For me it would be the Neo-Vipers, CLAWS, and the "venomized" ones. I didn't get the toys, they weren't in "my" comics (the marvel ones) and I just don't really see a place for 'em. They're some of those redundant units. I like the Cobras with the blueshirts and vipers, and the CGs operating independently. All the ninjas don't exist in my joeverse either (just Snake-Eyes, Storm Shadow, the Red Ninjas and Ninja-Vipers who are Cobras attempt at creating their own homegrown. Nightcreepers are there as well.)

I have figured out the age dilema of the GI Joe and Cobra Teams. I offer two explanations:
1. All characters remain the same age regardless of how many years they have been there. So Duke fought in Nam and joined the Joe team around age 35, now 25 years later, he is still around 35 because he doesen't age...it's just like James Bond or Batman....always the same age. Now some of you may not agree with that assessment so I have devised a secondary explanation. 2. In 1986, Cobra Commander reached over, from his picture on the Cover of GI Joe, and stole a single hair from Wolverine who was on the cover of X-Men. This occured because the new guy at the comic book shop was careless. Anyway with a little help from a certain tanktop cape wearing Dr. Mindbender, Cobra devised a chemical compound that would stop aging and all of their top agents received it. Once the Joes found out about it they showed up and stole it. Realizing what Cobra had done, and realizing that Cobra would be around for the long haul, General Hawk had all of the Joes take the compound so that they would always be there to stop Cobra. Now because this mission was so secret it had to be erased from the books and no one ever heard about it again, and in order to account for the time that was spent during this mission, Shipwreck made up the worst possible tale imaginable as an alibi and filed it with the Pentagon. What was the name of that story you ask...you guessed it...Cobra Laa. Does that sort out this issue for everyone? Sorry I haven't been around lately, I've been out of Town on business. Troynos I'm sorry about your divorce, I hope everything works out for you. |

Venomus Maximus is actually a clone of Serpentor that had a few problems, but Serpentor treats him like a Brother. CLAWS are Gunners for Hiss Tanks. Neo-Vipers are enhanced officers but most died due to complications with the process, but a few remain. |

That's a pretty cool Idea. I've always limited myself to the amount of CGs I have because I view them a little differently. Do you have any of the CG commanders then?
YOJOE.COM | Filecard Gallery - Crimson Guard Commander Do you include any of the other Crimson colored uniformed cobras like the CLAWS? YOJOE.COM | Cobra C.L.A.W.S. I use my CLAWS as the gunners to my HissTanks.

I certainly like the work yall do on back ground information!!

Well, it's been about 4 months since she stopped trying to harass me (been divorced about a year and a half now), so yep, it's getting better, lol.

I try to include them all. I have one division of the ones I hardly use which is a combination of Ninjas, Snow, Space, Science and Mortal Combat, Street Fighter. They all guard a top secret Cobra facility that Cobra does most of their R&D at which the Joes just can't get to and don't know about. Pretty much where Cobra-La was hidden at. I even use Golobulus. He is forced to help develop tech for them. CC figured out that all that Biomech tech they use doesn't stand up to a good old can of Lysol. So know Cobra-La is a slave labor camp attached to this R&D facility.
So does M. Bison run the place? lol
