I never knew that. That does make Fred/Cobra Commander a bit more in line with the file cards (he was clearly never a lawyer or accountant, but there's a plausible college degree in engineering of some kind - same for Professor Appel). Maybe there are different types of CGs - the lawyers/accountants (with clear connections to Extensive Enterprises); and other graduates in other lines of work, occasionally called upon to use their access to facilities to do a little selective demolitions/arson as a way of sabotaging business rivals, amping up extortion efforts and so on. |

Wow. I didn't know there were 5 different variations. Mine was the accounting secondary specialty.

Fred VII was a puzzle. I always assumed he had been a disgraced lawyer with an engineering degree that Cobra was more than willing to take on. He wasn't an accountant, or why would he need Raptor?

So Happy Thanksgiving and Happy belated 9 year old birthday to the Thread. I was younger once.
So going over the new FSS Filecards I got. I see Captain Skip has a note from fellow Action Force Commander "Captain Eagle". Do you think this is a premonition signifying his eminent appearance? I hope so. Maybe a Headhunters Vs Eagle Force or DEF with a small SAS FORCE 3-pack. The other filecard I wonder about is Dojo. Says he picked up Martial arts while stationed in Okinawa. I know there are all branches of the military stationed there, but Okinawa usually means Marine Corps to me. This is not on the original filecard but it is now.

To me Fred VII is always Battle Armor CC. Maybe he was just a genius, but Raptor was an accounting Genius so maybe he was meant to keep an eye on Raptor.

I always thought Raptor made more sense as a Native American. He just looks the part. His falcon and he could be the nemeses of Spirit and Freedom.

when I was a kid, I made up stories of Raptor as a bird-of-prey themed superhero ala Batman, with Fred VII as his Iron Manesque sidekick in the armour suit.

I was thinking Air Force, Kadena Air Base to be exact. But then again I automatically started thinking if it could've been an homage to Chuck Norris. But I was wrong Chuck went to Osan Air Base, South Korea. |

I hope you gentlemen all had a nice Thanksgiving.
I'd like some input on the G.I. Joe character, Bullet-Proof. I have a theory that during the 82-94 line of figures, Hasbro introduced a new "field commander" figure every few years... 1. Col. Hawk (General Flagg was the original Unit Commander) 2. 1SG Duke (Hawk would take over as Unit Commander) 3. CW-3 Flint (I know the original file card says E-6) 4. 1LT Falcon 5. CPT Grid-Iron 6. MAJ Bullet-Proof (v2) It seems to me that we mostly think of Hawk, Duke, and Flint because that's about where the original TV show stops. Obviously Falcon is the the movie, but the movie is kind of a mess and it's really about the rise of Falcon as a responsible leader, so if Sunbow had continued Falcon would have probably been the new leader in the cartoon. As it was, by the time DIC got the cartoon contract, Hasbro had introduced Grid-Iron as the new "leader" character for that iteration/wave of Joes. So Grid-Iron, and NOT Falcon, was the leader in the laughable DIC series. But there was no cartoon series by '94. Yet, Bullet-Proof (v2) was listed as the Battle Corps Commander - a bit of a promotion from D.E.F. Leader, because "Battle Corps" was basically Hasbro's label for the mainline force of G.I. Joe at the end. This progression of 6 leaders sort of makes sense... with the exception of Hawk in the beginning (and it was really (arguably) Stalker who served as the actual "field commander" in the first issues), the rank progression of the other "leaders" seems to correlate with an expanding roster of Joes. So, can we talk about these Team leaders? What's your take on these guys? How do you use them? How do you think Hasbro intended them? Other than DIC's terrible portrayal of Falcon and Grid-Iron, do you think they have any redeeming value? And what of Bullet-Proof? He's very arguably the LAST Field Commander of the original run... that seems pretty significant to me.
