Yeah nothing leads us to believe otherwise. You could say they are all good candidates to be all Special Forces.
Altitude's Sergeant Major of the Army always bothered me. First why does he outrank Skydive? I switch their ranks to just SGM not the SMA. Second Sgt Major of the Army is like a 50 year old man. Third Sgt Major of the Army is a title given to only one Sgt Major who is the highest ranking Enlisted man in the whole Army and his role is to make the rounds.

Alot of them end up in Company, Battalion and Group HQ in management roles; an 18E supervising a bunch of 25B's and 25C's in the Base Station section for example(according to some of the TOE information I have). Some also serve as direct support communicators and medics for Tier 1 units.
From what I understand, (based on books and linkedin / resume information) when serving SF attempt selection for Delta, its either as a shooter / assaulter or direct support (communications, medic, etc). Medics and Comms guys train to become the best in their field whereas those who go down the assault troop route focus on being the best shooters they can be. That's the age old question with a unit such as Delta. Whereas a SAS 4-man team employs the typical unconventional warfare makeup of a comms, medical, demolitions and weapons guru does Delta also employ a similar concept? In other words does a SF 18E Comms Sergeant choose whether to mainly be a shooter in an assault troop or maybe go to the Support Squadron? And on missions that require a small team to "listen" in on enemy transmissions would you send an assault team that may have a former comms sergeant on it or would you send comms specialists from the support squadron? |

D'oh! That's what happens when I scan these quickly at work on break!
By the way, anybody else notice how common the name Felix is on the file-cards? Mercer - first name Skydive - last name Rampart - last name I wonder if there's more? Last edited by seaneley; 11-15-2017 at 08:28 AM.. |

It's no secret that alot of Joe file names were named in commemoration of Hasbro staff and their families. I've always thought that Skydive and Rampart were named after relatives (probably the kids) of Hasbro Senior Admin Asst Cheryl Felix. After all Blackout and Bombstrike were named after relatives of Barrel Roll and even Joe Colton was named after Kirk Bogizian's son.

Interesting. I wonder if the top enlisted billet in those kinds of shops could also be filled by a senior 25 MOS, such as a 25W? Or would they have to transfer to a more conventional unit to serve out the rest of their time?

In regards to 'listening in' missions, I think those sort of missions anecdotally would be filled / performed by SIGINT specialists from the Activity / Orange or at least have an Orange technician attached to them. Communications and SIGINT are inter-related but different and are two very different career fields (as far as I'm aware). Comm guys are there to set up comm equipment and IT / radio networks to keep everyone in contact at the team / squad / platoon / company / HQ / level whereas a listening operation would be a cryptographer, someone who has the comm skills but also be able to identify frequency, location, basic translation and interpretation of the signals be it electronic or language and jamming / light electronic warfare. In regards to the patrol question, no idea One thing I do know is that during Neptune Spear, the SEALs were told that they weren't bringing their support guys and the mission was mostly shooters only, all SEALs. This meant no USAF PJ's or CCT's / TACP's (who routinely serve as DEVGRU direct support communicators and medics). This meant all the SEALs who were previously SEAL comms department heads and SEAL medics in the 'White' teams had to bone up on their skills. I got this info from Robert O'Neill's 'The Operator' and corroborated by one of Brandon Webb's books, and by a Q&A I found on the net. |

I think senior 25W's just get posted to senior positions in Airborne units, every few years there seems to be a culture shift wherein the higher ups decide that those senior slots are wasted on senior 18E's who could be used better elsewhere, then operations ramp up again and the brass decides that those positions now filled by senior 25's need to be filled by those with more tactical experience.

White Teams are the non-JSOC(non-DEVGRU) SEAL Teams.
