Okay, who's the JOE that would be most likely to "pilot" the drone of the RPV (Remote Piloted Vehicle)? I thought maybe Fast Draw, because he's covered head-to-toe in a fire-proof outfit. But, when I read the specs for the drone, it said it was a turbofan engine. Now, I know that big plane engines will knock you on your butt. Seeing how this is a smaller one, you don't have to worry about getting burned, but would the thrust hit you in the face if you were in the driver's seat?

You know you are right LowTech. It does have that Force Recon sound to it. Fer De Lance is a type of snake with a French naming origin. It makes it sound like Gung-Ho was born deep in the Bayou.

While people today default their thinking of UAVs to things like Predator and Reaper, which take off from and land on runways, most UAV/UAS/RPV/whatever acronym are smaller and are managed differently. The RPV reminds me a bit of the CL-89 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadair_CL-89) which, like many similar systems, is flown by the artillery. I tend to think that Rampart would be a good RPV operator. Grand Slam could also be recycled into that role, after hanging up his jet pack. I figure if you put the RPV, the Coastal Defender (using it for counter-battery radar purposes, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Counter-battery_radar) and the Slugger & Thunderclap together you could have a pretty good fire support element.
However, nobody is sitting in that seat when it is launched without a fire-proof suit. So, maybe Fast Draw was used for launching it "like a missile" and another operator "remotely" guided it afterwards? Or, is Fast Draw qualified to do it all? Also: the G.I. JOE Radar Rat and Radar Station could be used in counter battery positions. Last edited by seaneley; 10-14-2017 at 02:33 PM.. |

Okay, I finally have a use for Captain Grid-Iron. He sits atop the Rolling Thunder and lobs football grenades at the bad guys. I mean, how cool is that?

It's a good fit. Better than Psyche-Out was in charge of the Rolling Thunder during the Cobra Civil War?
I wonder how/if there is a difference between how Infantry Officer differs from a Mechanized Infantry Officer? Probably no much, but Grid-Iron is the only Infantry Officer in GI Joe, unless you consider Lt. Stone from Extreme who is a Marine, or Sub-Zero.

I believe that infantry captains are encouraged to command a mech company and vice versa during their tenure.

Sub-Zero seems more like an 11A but reading his SMS seems to indicate he is more a 13A Field Artillery Officer |

Yeah, I was under the impression that company, battery or troop were under a Captain, so he's a good fit.
