I use the Tiger Rat as it was released, but I later gave the Joes standard A-10s in my Combined Universe fic. That was a homage to the A-10 redeco of the Rattler from the '90s.

I haven't even started to try to figure out the fighter pilots. But this leads to do you use Barrel Roll as a Pilot or PJ?
Isn't the first Air Raid, Airborne? I only consider the second one. Same with Rampage, first one was Heavy Metal (Speed Metal) then they used the name as a new character. I take it you use each one as different characters? I was content using Air Raid as a separate character from Airborne. Although with the introduction of Air Raid II I feel as though I needed to rename Air Raid/Airborne. He is now Nosedive. But there are like 100 different Transformers to choose from.

Even though he looks different I still consider Speed Metal as Heavy Metal because it's the same individual on the Filecards. Rampage & Air Raid, I use their new file names as that character. Before the Sky Patrol Air Raid, I used that name for the Skyhawk sticker sheet name, Lt. Fred Bama (?). Which then leads me to rename him, the night boomer pilot & the WSO on the skystriker.
So I may use your nosedive code name for one of them. The Skyhawks pilot I use as a helicopter pilot who is also a r&d engineer. Got the r&d part from the essential guide. Last edited by JMan75; 07-25-2017 at 11:48 AM.. |

I love this idea! I took a promotion at my job about 3-4 weeks ago and have been too busy to work on my Joe structure and fanfic. This would bridge the gap of how I have my Joes structured and actually writing my fanfic (which I still only have a few pages written).
As for filling Joes in "non-sexy" positions such as door gunners....I would just use generic soldiers, whether they are "green shirts" or Steel Brigades. Technically a "door gunner" is the crew chief of that particular helicopter type and just happens to manage one of the machine guns on it. Joes like Rock'n'Roll and Repeater may know how to man the guns but do they know how to maintain a helicopter? That is a crew chief's main area of focus, to maintain the helicopter. I was never a fan of a Joe manning a crew-served weapon on a helicopter and as soon as they hit the ground they jump out to do some direct action role. That would leave the helicopter defenseless. Plus using what I feel is a highly qualified operator to just man a machine gun would be a severe waste of that operator's skills. I see it in cases like "Blackhawk Down" where a crew chief was injured and one of the Delta snipers took over operation of one of the machine guns but I do not see it where a group of Joes jump on a Tomahawk and two of them get arbitrarily assigned to the guns. Plus I think we determined a while back that of all the Joes that could have been crew chiefs Airborne and Starduster would be closest to that role. They could have been some maintenance MOS in the 15 series before going Infantry (or even Special Forces). From a real world perspective that would make the most sense. |

I'm trying to figure Scoop out. I'm kind of wondering if he would be considered the equivalent of a war correspondent, even though he works for the JOEs (or the government) instead of a major news agency? Would the JOEs resent him for filming everything they do?
I found this interesting; it was printed on his TCG card: "Information is vital in the war against Cobra. My job is to shadow the enemy, pinpoint a weakness, and devise a strategy to combat it." That sounds a lot like a Forward Air Controller's job, not a journalist's. Last edited by seaneley; 07-25-2017 at 11:34 PM.. |

I have never given him much thought. I think a good role for him would be to right by Hawk's side as his radio guy, notetaker. He would never be at the front door kicking it in, but with Hawk overlooking the battle and be responsible for relaying messages out to his units. Scoop's MOS as a Microwave Technician would serve this purpose. Then say the Joes recover some documents or other evidence. Scoop would be the guy who would be tasked with collecting and documenting everything.

You could use Scoop as a Combat Production Specialist (25V) too.

Yeah I assume that is his MOS, but what is that really mean for a Special Operations unit? When they killed bin Laden was there one there or were they all just using go-pros?
