I'm thinking that the perfect crew of the Tomahawk would be Flint and Lift-Ticket up front; Airborne and Repeater on guns.

I'm always torn between using Flint as a pilot or Special Forces XO. I sometimes assign him the role of a Little Bird pilot so that if he needs to jump out and support the assaulters, he's got the skills to do so.

I have never used Flint as a pilot. Major Altitude? Although I prefer the name Whirlwind.

But think about it this way: how different are Flint and Wild Bill's backgrounds? Both did snake-eating behind the lines work. Both became flight warrant officers. Granted, Wild Bill came on the scene flying a helo (a huey as I recall), while Flint came on the scene in a fist fight on a roller coaster, and that difference has shaped how we see them, but strictly based on file cards they followed similar career paths.

Flint first appeared driving the Armadillo and out-fighting Roadblock and Lady Jaye in captured HISS tanks.
Just to be persnickity. |

My point, though, was that we typically view Wild Bill exclusively as a pilot and Flint exclusively as an operator, when based on file cards there's no reason why Wild Bill couldn't be out on patrol and Flint couldn't be flying a helo. In fact, given the profusion of operators in Joe and the shortage of pilots (though Steel Brigade guys could be good co-pilots), there's an argument that Flint is better employed behind a stick. As for door gunners, I'd say that any of the machine gunners could fill that role. I'd save Airborne for the more specialized Dragonfly gunner role since he's the only one (as far as I recall) so qualified. Though Rock n Roll did the job once in the comic. Yeah I remember Hama needed another Helicopter pilot so he thrust Zap into that role. He didn't use Airborne. Who was Zap's Co-pilot (gunner)? Rock'n'Roll? That was the Zartan, Firefly, Wild-Weasel(in blue coveralls), Mutt, Deep-Six, Cutter, Water Moccassin (but no Copperhead) introduction issue.

Tomahawk 1: Lift Ticket + Steel Brigade co-pilot; RnR and Repeater as gunners Tomahawk 2 (reserve): Flint + Steel Brigade co-pilot; Roadblock and Drop Zone as gunners, plus Lifeline (medic) and Barbecue (jaws of life extraction/backup medic) in the back. Escort Dragonfly: Wild Bill + Airborne Escort Skystorm: Windmill That should get a team in or out of an LZ with adequate protection and resources. |

I've been using Wild Bill & Lift-Ticket as pilots with Airborne & Ripcord as door gunners for my Tomahawk.
