For me the JOEs will always be in an alternate '90s time line, because that's when they were initially written. Sure, they have today's tech, but that's because of their alternative reality.

...On a tangential note, what vehicles would be appropriate? In real life vehicles like this do the job: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M1135_...ssance_Vehicle and M93A1 / M93A1P1 Fox NBC Reconnaissance Vehicle - Army Technology
Any thoughts for a Joe vehicle? |

I suppose that could work. On APCs . . . are there any Joe APCs, other than the Warthog, with trailer hitches? The original didn't have one, the Monster Blaster doesn't have one, nor the R.H.I.N.O., the Quickstrick (not exactly an APC but looks like it should be one) doesn't have one . . . I'm sure I'm missing something.

ATC from Z-Force has one. (Another reason why the ATC is superior to the APC.)

In reverse order, I have in mind a vehicle that can carry a half dozen or so Joes under armour (protection from small arms/machine gun fire and Maggot shrapnel), that can pull any of the trailers. You could have an air defence team pulling the Coastal Defender or MMS or twin battle gun; you could have a gun crew pulling the mountain howitzer; or a maintenance team pulling the Road Toad; or drag away a captured ASP . . . I'm just looking for something different instead of using the jeep variants. The idea is partially inspired by the pictures in the article on pages 29-40 here (http://www.rcaa-aarc.ca/wp-content/u...9-2000%20E.pdf found through accidental and never to be repeated Google-fu! The rest of the doc looks like a sure fire way to beat insomnia.)
There was a previous discussion somewhere about the HAVOC being an ordnance carrier, so if you ditched that little flying . . . whatever that was, you could consider it a tracked flatbed and it could serve the utility role I have in mind - but the troops remain exposed. The Battle Wagon doesn't look like if carries troops under armour, though I see on the blueprints that it has a "sophisticated vehicle front end winch system," so take that all you other vehicles making do with apparently unsophisticated winches! |

I looked at the RHINO and ROCC but they don't have hitches either.

In a way I'm actually surprised the hitches lasted as long as they did given that I don't think any trailers came out after '87 or so. Oh well . . .
