In a realistic Joe verse I would use him as some sort of Comms personnel, either a Special Forces Communications Sergeant or someone in a 25-series MOS. Or you could also make him an Infantryman who specializes in non-lethal weapons. Maybe the Joes are directed to raid a warehouse suspected of WMD and there are a lot of civilians in the area. Sci-Fi could be part of a section that utilizes non-lethal weapons to "dazzle" the crowd while an assault team raids the warehouse. I guess it depends on what role you see your Joe team being in. Would Sci-Fi be more into DA or SR roles (hence a SF Comms Sergeant MOS) or more support roles (25 series MOS or as a non-lethal weapons specialist)?

I do use Sci-Fi, and laser weapons. All those guys as part of an expanded Special Weapons Force. They get to test all the cutting edge weapons you can imagine. Its not very realistic but there's enough of them. I make the Flamethrowers heacy Laser guys too, to bulk out the Squadron with all the neon we have.

Would it be realistic for Sci-Fi's (and Flash's) backpacks to be nuclear? I could see that giving them the extra "umph" they need to take down targets without using all their juice up with one shot.

someone walking around with an unlicensed nuclear accelerator on their back, connected to some sort of 'ray gun'? It'll never catch on.

I was thinking of the mission to kill Bin Laden and how there was one CIA officer alongside the SEALS as they needed a civilian to assume control of the operation since the U.S. was not technically at war with Pakistan. So this got me thinking of the Joe team and how they would need CIA officers to accompany them on missions within countries that the U.S. is not at war with. Plus the CIA is the only U.S. government agency authorized to conduct covert operations. With this in mind I was thinking about classifying Joes such as Lady Jaye as a CIA operative. Her background could be originally enlisted in the U.S. Army as a personnel clerk then re-enlist as Human Intelligence Collector before going on to the CIA. She could be a case officer permanently assigned to work with the Joe team. Her filecard indicates she disguises herself in other countries to pick up intel. That is more in line with a "covert" operation versus a recon group hiding out in the bush collecting intelligence (a "clandestine" operation).
With that in mind I was trying to think of other Joes that could be used as CIA agents. Maybe Helix, Jinx and Quick-Kick? |

my Black Sword fic used Scarlett and Chuckles as CIA liasons and Jaye was an ISA operative, but that could easily work too. Jinx, Quicky and Helix are good shouts too.
you could if you wanted, reconfigure Ninja Force to be a team of CIA black ops types who are all martial arts trained, but not actual ninjas, they instead call themselves that as a joke because they specialise in sneaky missions and their training, similar to Tom Clancy's LID unit that Chavez was part of in Clear and Present Danger, before the Agency recruited him for the operation to Colombia, was known as the Ninjas and carried shuriken and had the badass boast 'We own the night'. |
