Yeah, this is something I'm worried about in the new IDW comics. Snake Eyes is already brandishing a katana, rather than an uzi. I know that seeing him without his blade is like seeing Batman without his utility belt but I want to see him play a more realistic commando role. Not an invincible ninja who can scale flat smooth walls with his bare hands. Snake Eyes has essentially become the superhero of GI Joe--the masked man in black with deadly accuracy and supernatural skill. I want to see a more vulnerable, even flawed Snake. One of the reasons I hate most Steven Segal movies is that he never ever gets hit in fight, kind of like Chuck Norris. Snake Eyes has to lose the invincibility.
Remember when the title was renamed "G.I. Joe starring Snake-Eyes" for awhile?

I liked the early years of Joe, when Snake Eyes was badass but could still be dealt with. Like in issue #12, issue #31 or issue #55.

And what's the only difference between Snake Eyes and Superman? Kryptonite don't do shit to Snake Eyes. |

I just liked it better when it wasn't about "Snake-Eyes and those other guys".
I was never an SE fan at all, still not and never will be.

Yeah a year later and the series was over. I miss the Snake-Eyes that needed to be rescued from time to time. Even if it was Timber that saved his can. I wonder if Timber will be in the new IDW series? And where will Order and Mutt and Lamont go to the bathroom in an underground city?

Batman would wipe the floor with Snake-Eyes punk ass. I always liked the 2nd version of Snake-Eyes, with the "knight" visor. Was a cool figure. One of my favorite figures, just not a favorite character.

I think part of the problem is his hidden identity and speechlessness. It's hard to really develop a character and his personality when he can't even speak. It's like Kenny on South Park--there's only so much you can do with character before the gimicks get old. SE needs a serious reboot: show us his face and let's see his ass get kicked a little.

Naw, you can give a faceless/mute some personality to make him an interesting character.
SE was interesting before he became NINJA-COMMANDO-BAD-ASS!!!

G.I. Joe Comic Book Archive Then it was Snake-Eyes and Ninja Force, then Snakey and the Transformers. What? The art was good though. |

I actually liked the ninja background - I thought issues #26 and #27 were cool. It was when that became all ninja that it got lame for me. For instance, when he fought Wade and the other Cobras on the ferry in issue #36 it wasn't with "mad ninja skills", and that was cool.
