I do not know anything about the COPS toyline but I would say that looks like a logical family link. What era does COPS take place in? I imagine each generation might be associated with a major U.S. war (WWI, WWII, Korean, Vietnam).
So I have been plugging away at the three JSOT teams that Zuludelta created and came up with this: JSOT-1 Team Leader: Torpedo, Special Warfare Officer Team Chief: Stalker, SF Senior Sergeant Senior Operator (Intelligence): Recondo, SF Assistant Operations and Intelligence Sergeant Senior Operator (Intelligence): Gung-Ho, Reconnaissance Marine Senior Operator (Weapons): Snake-Eyes, Infantryman Senior Operator (Medic): Doc, SF Medical Sergeant Senior Operator (Communications): Breaker, SF Communications Sergeant Senior Operator (Engineer): Zap, SF Engineer Sergeant Senior Operator(EOD/C-IED): Tripwire, Navy EOD Technician Operator (Weapons): Snow Job, Infantryman Operator (Medic): Spirit, SF Medical Sergeant Operator (Communications): Recoil, SF Communications Sergeant Operator (Engineer): Ripcord, SF Engineer Sergeant Operator(EOD/C-IED): Lightfoot, Navy EOD Technician My JSOT-1 is very similar to what zulu came up with but I made a few changes. I was kind of pushing it with Spirit as a SF Medical Sergeant but I guess I was taking his "medicine man/shaman" described in his filecard and putting it into a more practical context. Snake-Eyes is another unknown with his lack of speaking. But for the time being (at least in my Joeverse) he will speak at first and then lose that ability later. Also as a side note: I really wanted to place Roadblock in JSOT-1 but just couldn't work him in. :( JSOT-2 Team Leader: Claymore, SF Officer Team Chief: Leatherneck, Reconnaissance Marine Senior Operator (Intelligence): Wet-Suit, Special Warfare Operator Senior Operator (Intelligence): Beach-Head, Infantryman Senior Operator (Weapons): Low-Light, Infantryman Senior Operator (Medic): Lifeline, USAF Pararescueman Senior Operator (Communications): Dial-Tone, SF Communications Sergeant Senior Operator (Engineer): Tollbooth, SF Engineer Sergeant Senior Operator(EOD/C-IED): Long Arm, Navy EOD Technician Operator (Weapons): Dusty, Infantryman Operator (Medic): Ice Storm v2, Navy Hospital Corspman Operator (Communications): Sneak Peek, SF Communications Sergeant Operator (Engineer): Tunnel Rat, SF Engineer Sergeant Operator(EOD/C-IED): Fast Draw, Navy EOD Technician Almost made Tunnel Rat an EOD Technician but too much of his filecard (and even his codename) point to a US Army engineer. JSOT-3 Team Leader: Falcon, SF Officer Team Chief: Skydive, Infantry Senior Sergeant Senior Operator (Intelligence): Altitude, Infantryman Senior Operator (Intelligence): Outback, Infantryman Senior Operator (Weapons): Drop Zone, SF Weapons Sergeant Senior Operator (Medic): Airborne v2, SF Medical Sergeant Senior Operator (Communications): Airwave, SF Communications Sergeant Senior Operator (Engineer): Static Line, SF Engineer Sergeant Senior Operator(EOD/C-IED): Depth Charge, Navy EOD Technician Operator (Weapons): Freefall, Infantryman Operator (Medic): Stretcher, Healthcare Specialist Operator (Communications): Dee-Jay, SF Communications Sergeant Operator (Engineer): Charbroil, SF Engineer Sergeant Operator(EOD/C-IED): Effects, Navy EOD Technician |

There's also the SOG certificate so he must have gone Special Forces at some point.

I actually like the idea of Spirit being updated as an SF Medical Sergeant. I think it makes sense and doesn't really conflict with the character's core in any significant way... for one thing, it doesn't preclude him from being a combatant-type character, even more so now than back during the character's creation in 1984--currently, SF Medical Sergeants are no longer eligible to receive the Combat Medical Badge for performing their duties under fire in qualifying conflicts and now receive the Combat Infantryman Badge like the rest of their SF peers.

Since you and zulu showed me the RRC TOE I had to drop SE, SS, and Stalker serving on one since that would mean they would be much higher in rank before Stalker could even join SF. I have them either serving on a LRSU or a Ranger recon team. BTW the only US Army TOE info I can find is from this link: https://fas.org/man/dod-101/army/unit/toe/ I am not sure if the entry for Light Infantry Division reflects the 75th Ranger Regiment or not (since it is considered "light infantry" although they are not division size). I am guessing it is more in line with the 10th Mountain Division. Quote:

The only thing I know for sure is that the COPS were supposed to be in the "future" at the time the toys were made and the claim on the packaging was "21st century", so it could be anytime post-2000. However, many of the characters were modified by robotics, or had robot partners / pets, so a little more futuristic than today.

^^^ That would line up pretty well then, especially if one makes the Joe team during their original timeline (82-94).
Since I brought up the SE,SS, and Stalker tie in I just need to rant real quick (I tend to avoid that on here since we are discussing toys). Although I think that particular storyline makes logical sense that two former members of a LRRP/LSRU team would later join a SOF unit (since it seems most SOF that start out usually try to recruit people they knew at some point) I am not going with the other elements of Snake-Eyes history from the comics. Personally I do not like the "Six Degrees of Snake-Eyes" bit that seemed to get out of control. It is almost like Cobra Commander had such a hatred of SE that he recruited other people who had a beef with him as well (Destro, Baroness, Firefly, Zartan). To have that many upper management members of a terrorist organization have those kinds of ties with a one member of a US SOF team is just absurd. Doesn't help either that Hawk happened to be the military officer that met SE at the airport to let him know about his family. I am surprised they didn't pull more Joe/Cobra members for more tie-ins to SE: Lifeline was the paramedic at the scene of SE's family's crash, Doc was the doctor on duty at the hospital who pronounced them dead, Clutch was the tow truck driver that hauled away the wrecked car, the Dreadnoks were riding their motorcycles and had to swerve out of the way of the two cars in order to avoid colliding with them (hence they lost time in order to get the last few doughnuts from their local gas station before they sold out for the day so now they have a grudge against the only living person connected to the deceased family), and on and on. I apologize about the rant but I seriously think the rest of the tie-ins are borderline absurd. Last edited by john shaft; 03-30-2017 at 08:38 AM.. Reason: Clarity |

We may have already discussed this but the Joes who I think make the most sense repurposed as medics :
Spirit, Recondo(although intelligence Sgt is perfect), Barbecue, Outback, Muskrat. Dusty and Footloose are sort of open books without significant roles, and we often forget about Sidetrack and Sideswipe who are Medics. I know I do since I never owned them.

Barbecue has always been the odd man out in the early-ish ARAH GI Joe to me. I guess he does work in a more realistic context being reinterpreted as a medic, but alternatively, if you want to keep the firefighter aspect of the character, you can update him as a Damage Controlman (the Navy rating equivalent of the Army's firefighter MOS) who is qualified as a Shipboard Chemical-Biological-Radiological Defense Operations Specialist (NEC 4805). Unlike the Army, the Navy doesn't have a dedicated CBRN Specialist-type rating but a small subset of its Damage Controlmen do specialize in shipboard CBR Defense whilst maintaining their firefighting proficiency. So a modern, updated version of Barbecue could be something like a Navy version of Airtight who also just happens to be a shipboard firefighter. |

I never liked Barbecue. He is the only Joe I never bought as a kid on purpose. Recondo I could never find, but Barbecue I just past on. He looked cool enough, but I didn't want him the more than other figures. I didn't want Lady-Jaye either. My $2.00 allowance only got me so many figures plus the Ferret and Armadillo.

And as much as I have tried I still can't justify having firefighters on my SOF team. No offense at all to those who put their lives on the line but it just doesn't fit in my Joe-verse. Don't forget Med Alert, Link Talbot, Ice Storm v2, Lifeline v2, Stretcher, and Airborne v2 as well. |
