I agree. I think the Night Creepers were created first tho. I prefer the NCs to the ninja Vipers myself.

Back to the topic of jobs missing on the Joe team. What about a submarine commander. It strikes me as odd that there's a definite lack of submarines in the Joe universe. I guess there's a few one-man type crafts, but nothing big. It would have been cool to have a submarine that was maybe half the size of the Flagg with a Navy commander or captain figure included.
That would be cool. As a kid I used the rebel transport as a Sub and had a cheesy custom commander named "Hull" Still got him. |

I think CC is trying to get into the Ninja Market, but his Ninja-Vipers are not as good. CC loves to pit his forces against each other. He has money so if he puts out a contract to assassinate or kidnap someone he's got 3 or 4 factions vying for the job. Guaranteed results.

What I find redundant though are the Bazooka trooper, Hostile environment trooper, flame thrower trooper, etc. I like the (function)-viper better. I consider those the old Cobra army before they came up with the Vipers. Last edited by Pimp Daddy Darklon; 01-16-2009 at 10:04 PM.. |

For me, Red ninjas are Arashikage ninjas that were brought in by Stormshadow when he joined Cobra. When Stormshadow defected, CC doesn't trust them anymore & hires the Nightcreepers. Along the way, Dice(ex-Nightcreeper) & Slice(ex-Arashikage) were recruited and trained qualified Vipers to be Ninja Vipers. CC primarily uses the Ninja Vipers to keep tabs on any contracted merc ninjas groups, as they are not that good as pointed out by Loose Cannon, be it to ensure they get the job done or to check for any double cross. Black Dragon Ninjas are another merc group I guess. It might be possible than the Black Dragon clan = Ninja Ku clan.
What I find redundant though are the Bazooka trooper, Hostile environment trooper, flame thrower trooper, etc. I like the (function)-viper better. I consider this the old Cobra army before they came up with the Vipers. I combined the Black Dragon Ninjas and Ninja-Ku, even though Black Dragon wasn't suppose to be Ninjas. At least his troops are not. Based on the convention set. As far as redundant troopers and their (Weapon)-Viper counterparts, I too like the FRAG or HEAT or SAW better. However I imagine that there are units who are remotely located and are not up to speed with the training available. However these guys would be resourceful enough to operate a Bazooka or pressed into service like the Viper machine gunner in the Arctic Pack. (He's probably the biggest guy on the team.) Consider this the US Marine Corps did not switch to the M1 Abrams until 8 years after production. |

The ninjas are not big are my list either, except Storm Shadow who is a special operative with ninjitsu training. The Night Creepers aren't necessarily redundant when you you veiw them as mercenaries because sometimes you may not want an operation to get traced back to you. So contractors could be seen as working for any organization. And Night Creepers also function as urban commandos, unlike the red ninjas, who are primarily trained for silent insertions into fortified areas where they need to assassinate or steal for Cobra.

I hate all the ninjas
Should just be Storm Shadow and the Red Ninjas and leave it at that...

The problem with Cobra is that we have access to all of 'em at once, but in the scheme of things they evolved over time.
The Ninjas.. Had access to the Red Ninjas, but then Storm Shadow defected and took the loyal ninjas with him. So CC contracted the Night Creepers who proved ineffective. So he tried to "homegrow" some with the Ninja-Vipers, but they weren't as good as normal ninjas, so he contracted the Black Dragon Ninjas and here we are... Started off with normal Troopers, Bazooka Troopers, etc.. and with newer training and technologies created the Vipers... So in "reality", the units aren't all functioning together (in most cases).

Yeah, this is something I'm worried about in the new IDW comics. Snake Eyes is already brandishing a katana, rather than an uzi. I know that seeing him without his blade is like seeing Batman without his utility belt but I want to see him play a more realistic commando role. Not an invincible ninja who can scale flat smooth walls with his bare hands. Snake Eyes has essentially become the superhero of GI Joe--the masked man in black with deadly accuracy and supernatural skill. I want to see a more vulnerable, even flawed Snake. One of the reasons I hate most Steven Segal movies is that he never ever gets hit in a fight, kind of like Chuck Norris. Snake Eyes has to lose the invincibility.
