So I am revisiting the history of Stalker, Snake-Eyes and Storm Shadow in regards to them serving on a LRRP team. Since my take on the Joe team is in the modern era I was wondering whether to have them serve on a LRSU or a 75th Ranger Reconnaissance Company? Essentially both types of units are similar (one serving in standard units while the RRC serves in The Regiment). It seems LRSU's trace their history back to the LRRP's so I was leaning towards having the three of them serve in a standard unit together.

I wonder how many of those select few RRC guys go onto Delta? Like it's a tryout for Delta? I mean they are considered tier 1 correct?
Where would you have them operating both Afghanistan and Iraq?

I was leaning towards Afghanistan as being the "new Vietnam" in terms of the background for Stalker, SE, SS, Dickie, Ramon and Wade when they encounter the infamous ambush. Wade would be captured by the Taliban in my modern take. |

I've been going through this thread for the first time. There's some really interesting discussion going on. The several year old discussion about Deep Six's dolphin with the stupid name was amusing. I was stationed on North Island from 2007 to 2011 while my friend was working as a Storekeeper for some diver command around the same time on another base there. My friend's command was the same one that trained the Navy's mine detecting dolphins there. I got to meet them on the base on Point Loma back then, and some of those dolphins were kinda jerks. They would splash people for the hell of it, or nip anybody that reaches at them. Other dolphins refused to even acknowledge or look in the direction of anybody that didn't give them treats, but would perk up the moment they saw somebody pick up a fish. That actually isn't unlike my dog a lot of the times.

That's pretty cool. I can't remember if we ever determined the Dolphin's name? Skippy?

Again, I'm years behind so sorry if this has been mentioned before, but there was some misinformation a long while back about what to call a Chief Warrant Officer. In my experience in the Navy, they are never ever called Chief. The Chief Torpedo figure perhaps misled a lot of Joe fans into believing this. The Chief Warrant Officers I worked with were referred to by the title of Warrant Officer, Warrant, or Mister/Ms. If you call a Warrant Officer by the term Chief, you're probably going to get an asschewing. A more appropriate title for Torpedo's ranked/titled figures would have been Warrant Torpedo.
Maybe it's different in other branches though, where Chief Warrant Officers don't have another rank called Chief to cause confusion. In the Navy, the only people called Chiefs are E-7's. Chief Petty Officer is the full term, but nobody ever refers to it by that. E-8's are called Senior Chief or the more often by the informal term Senior. E-9's are called Master Chief, but there is no informal term called Master. For those two highest enlisted ranks, it's very important to not forget the word before Chief. Again, asschewing. |

I think the Regiment is considered tier 3(?) so don't know if that applies to members of the RRC or not. I also think there may be a total of 18 members per battalion (three six-man teams) so I wonder if the Regiment tries to steer them away from joining Delta? I imagine there is a lot of training involved so they may not want to lose them just because of the time and money invested in them.
I was leaning towards Afghanistan as being the "new Vietnam" in terms of the background for Stalker, SE, SS, Dickie, Ramon and Wade when they encounter the infamous ambush. Wade would be captured by the Taliban in my modern take. It sounds like they are opening up RRC to other LSRU units, so they could have been both.. It also sounds like the RRC guys are more seasoned soldiers at least E-6s for the most part, so it's hard to say if there is enough time to go through that RRC pipeline of supposedly 34weeks and then there must be some commitment to stay with the Rangers for another year or two. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regime...ssance_Company

I have heard other stories of dolphins being a bit on the jerk-side before. Lol Quote:

Military Ranks - JCWiki It clears up on which branch you refer to WO's as (Chief, Mister, etc). Quote:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regime...ssance_Company As far as Stalker and Co. I was trying to link them with a unit that is closest to the Vietnam-era LRRP's. I believe that is the LSRU's (from what I have gathered). I might be mistaken though. And at 34 weeks of training I figure there would definitely be some sort of time they must stay in a RRC. BTW does anyone have any source material of what Wade, Dickie and Ramon's ranks were? |

I read an interesting article from a former Army Warrant Officer at this link about military WO's:
Military Ranks - JCWiki It clears up on which branch you refer to WO's as (Chief, Mister, etc). I'm guessing Torpedo's specialty as a Warrant would be EOD. Seems to make the most sense. |

I go with Lt. Torpedo now, based on his first ME figure. Makes him younger.
Chief Flint sounds about right, or Chief Shipwreck. You know Many of those orignal LRRP teams are what they used to stand up the Ranger Battalion in the 70s. THe two are always intertwined.
