I loved R. Lee Emery's (I think it was him) Sarge from We Were Soldiers. Everyday he passed by the same soldier and the soldier would say to him "good morning" or something like that.
In the middle of the battle, the Sarge goes to the soldier and says something like "now this is a good morning" Sam Elliot. I loved him too. Reminded me of an old timer (Korea) I use to work for. When the guy asks him about the weather and he's like, "Do I look like a fucking weatherman?" That is a great vietnam movie. |

Yeah, what also made that movie so good wasn't just the war scenes, but the homefront scenes. Where the wives all get together everytime a car pulls up saying one of the husbands is dead.

More Coast Guard? A trained Boat Boarder would be useful (what I think Topside was meant to be), but is that a specific "job"? I believe Topside is based on this: Visit, Board, Search, and Seizure - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia By the way great topic guys, it is very informative and one of my favorites to read. |

Sometimes i imagine that they use mostly experimental vehicles so they can keep extras because they are testing them on the battlefield and they get blown up a lot. So they may only have 6 tomahawks and one's in the shop all the time and they really only put 12-20 men on the field at a time. Sometimes less. |

So for most of the Joe missions, the black ops and cover ops stuff, it's usually the named Joes doing 'em with the named Joes providing vehicular support.
In the larger scale battles (say invading Cobra Island, forcing cobra out of another country), then the greenshirts get to drive/pilot the "back-up" vehicles.

He can do a barrel-roll. I think though if you read Skystriker's file card it seems like there are guys that get called up for the front line duty from the ranks of the Green-Shirts. Like the practice squad in the NFL. But if the joes are rolling up with 10 tomahawks which I'm sure they do sometimes, then they are putting at least 100 guys on a battlefield. With most likely gunship support. So they don't have to be the cream of the crop.

In my mind the greenshirts are not really joes, but just support or they may be regular infantry units that are called up to assist large-scale operations. SEALs and Green Berets and Delta Force sometimes work with non special forces.
