This guy was pretty cool because he was only made in Argentina, and you could only get him with the Persuader toy...
Back-Stop (Argentinian exclusive: “Blowtorch” in green, red & silver) – Piloto Persuader ‘Driver of the Persuader / Persuader Pilot’: PERSUADER PILOT Code Name: Back-Stop File Name: Roberto A. Levin Primary Military Specialty: Armor Secondary Military Specialty: Mechanized Infantry Grade: A-5 Born in Montreal, Canada, Back-Stop channeled his innate violence in the practice of Target Shooting [or, “Bulls-Eye”] with various firearms. During the years of his adolescence was [the] invincible champion in the Junior Shot League. And without rivals of his level, leaving unbeaten the category then starting a successful career in the Advanced Infantry School, specializing in the destruction of armor. Once graduated found his true calling in the army, lining up in the ranks of G.I. JOE as the Persuader pilot. |

My Joe unit is a Brigade / Regiment / Group sized unit on paper. I'm using a Cavalry-esque Group , Squadron (Battalion), Troop (Company), Team (Platoon) structure which seems how most SMU's operate from what I can gather.
There's a Joe HQ with the command staff, battle staff (SOJ1-6), personal Staff (Chaplain, JAG, etc) x 3 Sabre Squadrons Operations Support Squadron (Intel, Combat Support) Aviation Squadron Support Squadron (Logistics, Communications, Medical, Engineering, Force Protection Platoon) Sabre Squadrons containing; - HQ Detachment - Support Troop - x 4 Troops of 20 men Support Troop containing; - Direct Support Intelligence Team - Direct Support Communications Team - Logistic Support Team (Mechanics, Supply / Admin staff) - Combat Support Team (EOD, Military Working Dog, CBRN, etc) I'll be using alot of contractors, civilians, etc. Especially with the Aviation guys. I'll have a small group of Rotary Wing and Fixed Wing Pilots (no jets) and a small group of mechanics (Low Ball, Peachy from the comic, Alice from the cartoon). I'll be writing that most of the Joes air assets are leased so about 95% of maintenance are done by whomever they're leasing it from and they only need a handful of mechanics and fuelers. There's a French SOF Aviation unit that just has 20 Pilots / Flight Engineers / Crew Chiefs and 10 Maintenance guys. They don't even have their own planes. They have an agreement with the French regular Air Force that every day a handful of air frames are available for their exclusive use. Squadrons what is the difference between them and the Direct Support and Direct Combat Support Teams? My idea for my Joe team was to have a Support and Combat Support Squardrons and from those assign personnel as needed to the Sabre Squadrons. I am curious as to the differences between them in your Joe-verse. |

In regards to your Support and Combat Support
Squadrons what is the difference between them and the Direct Support and Direct Combat Support Teams? My idea for my Joe team was to have a Support and Combat Support Squardrons and from those assign personnel as needed to the Sabre Squadrons. I am curious as to the differences between them in your Joe-verse. The Operations Support Squadron has an Intelligence Support Troop (Company) and a Combat Support Troop (Company). They each supply individual teams to the Sabre Squadrons. So for instance the Combat Support Troop would have; HQ Detachment EOD Platoon - HQ (Plt Cmdr, Plt NCO, Ops NCO) - Team 1 (Supports A Squadron) - Team 2 (Supports B Squadron) - Team 3 (Supports C Squadron) - Team 4 and Team 5 (Supports Base / Training) The same goes for the Support Squadron; Squadron HQ Supply Plt Maintenance Plt Distribution Plt Medical Plt Logistic Support Troop - Troop HQ - Logistic Support Team 1 (Supports A Squadron) - Logistic Support Team 2 (Supports B Squadron) - Logistic Support Team 3 (Supports C Squadron) - Logistic Support Team 4 (Supports Operations Support Squadron if needed) - Logistic Support Team 5 (Reserve / Campaign Support) * * Campaign Support means in the event of large scale operations, LST 5 can deploy with a small C2 element. Like what happened during the Invasion of Cobra Island / Cobra Civil War story. I like to think of it as the Support Squadron being the Support Battalion and the Logistic Support Teams being a (much) smaller version of a Fwd Support Company. It also means I can have named Joes in support roles (drivers, mechanics, cooks) and still have them on the 'front lines' whilst the hundreds of other logistic roles can be filled by unnamed greenshirt types |

The last of the 1988 Argentinian file-cards:
I like this guy, because once again, we get a personal name for a Cobra operative... Cobra de Agua ‘Cobra of Water / Water Cobra’ (Cobra Eel - Argentina) – Cobra Hombre-Rana ‘Frogman’: COBRA FROG-MAN Code Name: Water Cobra File Name: MartĂ*n Dieckman Primary Military Specialty: Diving Tactician Secondary Military Specialty: Instructor Grade: C-14 Distinguished diver of great depths, Water Cobra is a constant underwater threat to the G.I. JOE Commandos. Adept to implement the most unexpected and dangerous traps underwater, is capable of transforming harmless rivers, lakes or swamps into effective deadly ambushes. |

Here's another "Blowtorch" variant from Argentina...
T.N.T. (Argentinian exclusive: “Blowtorch” in blue & silver) –Desactivador de Bombas ‘Deactivator of Bombs’: DEACTIVATOR OF BOMBS Code Name: T.N.T. File Name: Ted Nicolas Thomas Primary Military Specialty: Engineer Artilleryman Secondary Military Specialty: Deactivator of Explosive Devices Grade: M-16 Lost his father in the Korean War [June 1950-July 1953] victim of a mine hidden in the jungle. This would mark his future and as soon as he could joined the forces of G.I. JOE adopting that complex specialty. His advice and daredevil actions save the Commandos from innumerable ambushes that could be fatal. Interestingly, the GIJCC did a revision of this character in the 25th style and renamed him "Theodore M. Thomas" (which does not produce the initials "T.N.T." like the previous version from Argentina.) He is a Bomb Disposal Expert and has a grade of E-6. I think I saw a comic page with "M" instead but that has got to be a typo. I feel like all these guys were supposed to be Americans.

does seem like it, but I gotta say, it seems weird that Argentina would be selling Joes as a US team with no local talent whatsoever.

I think I saw a comic page with "M" instead but that has got to be a typo. I feel like all these guys were supposed to be Americans. Anyway, here's Sigilo, the "Quick-Kick Commando"!... Quick-Kick (Argentina) – Sigilo ‘Stealth’: QUICK-KICK Code Name: Stealth File Name: Tung Li Chang Primary Military Specialty: Martial Fight Secondary Military Specialty: Espionage Grade: A-3 Descendant of Japanese, already small Tung Li Chang learned the secrets of the ancient Oriental martial arts. Of [a] cold and analytical personality, Tung Li possesses a formidable mastery of himself both physically and mentally. Participated in various tournaments of Kung-Fu standing out by his great skill. [A] Certain day while competing, without him knowing, watching him effectively impacted the G.I. JOE Intelligence, who did not hesitate to invite him to join the Special Forces. Since then, the life of Tung Li changed, becoming the Quick-Kick Commando and starring [i.e., “taking the lead role”] in the most delicate and risky missions, those where the smallest false move... can be fatal! Seriously, "Quick-Kick" (with a hyphen) is what he does, not his name. His code-name's Sigilo, and he will kick you as his main job in the military! Hahahaha! |
