Don't want to take away from Sparks, but here's the file-card of S.O.S. (Doc - Argentina) – Medico ‘Doctor’:
MEDIC Code Name: S.O.S. File Name: Dr. Gordon M. Kline SN: RA 496478675 Primary Military Specialty: Infantry Secondary Military Specialty: Health Service Grade: D’8 S.O.S. always had an ideal in his life, be useful to the community by helping others. Because of that [he] chose medicine as a profession. Member of the Heroic Commandos involved in the most dangerous missions providing medical assistance to fighters. Man of immense courage [who] curiously hates war. His guns do not kill, on the contrary, with them [he] saves hundreds of lives. What the @#$%! is a "Grade: D'8"??? Quote:
Antorcha ‘Torch’ (Blowtorch – Argentina) – Lanza Llamas ‘Flamethrower’ [lit. ‘Spear Flames’]:
FLAMETHROWER Code Name: Torch File Name: Brownbill, Dennis SN: RA 3486665987 Primary Military Specialty: Artillery Secondary Military Specialty: Combatant Grade: G6 Specialist in incendiary equipment for military purposes, Torch is a pioneer in this field, which has already been used as a defense in the origins of history. The targets preferred for the powerful fire of Torch are the Cobra camps and many victories [are] won in this area in which they know that where there is an uncontrollable fire behind this surely [is] the hand of Torch. |

They use electromagnetic energy to jam radios and radars but also to protect against enemy jamming and anti-radiation devices and the use of mobile phones to detonate IEDs. They collect and monitor ELINT and COMINT as well, which is why EW specialists are drawn from the SIGNALS branch.

I was kind of leaning towards ignoring the Radio Maintainer part and going with the electronic warfare and crypto. You are correct and that there are a lot of Joes that fit into the radio operator role already so this would make Sparks more unique. Quote:

Since they deal with ELINT and COMINT I wonder why the 29 CMF is not just combined with the 35 Intelligence CMF? Seems like that would be a good fit and more streamlined as well. |

I wonder what those devices look like? I suppose there is a place for him in all the big vehicles, MMC, the General, ROCC. What's the more natural progression Crypto to EW or vice versa?

Since you brought it up I am wondering it as well. It is also making me rethink Breaker. Originally I had him starting out as an Infantryman then going Special Forces Communications Sergeant. However his filecard mentions "covert electronics" which would seem to me to be more EW. So I am thinking maybe having him start out as an Infantryman then reclassifying as a 35P Cryptologic Linguist (covers some of his seven languages) then maybe serving in a SOT-A team (which would cover his covert electronics)? Of course this would not cover his "Signal School" education in his filecard so maybe start out as a 25C Radio-Operator Maintainer then 35P then SOT-A (which if it goes that way then you have to ignore his "Infantry" PMS)?

EW is part of the Intel community. But they need specialists for different roles. Some are collectors, some are analysts, and others conduct electronic attack or defense. HUMINT gathers info from face-to-face human interaction: talking with civilians, hostages, detainees, recon personnel. IMINT collects and analyzes aerial and satellite photography. SIGINT collect communication signals, Cyrpto translate encrypted signals, EW monitors signals for possible enemy jamming or remote detonation and engage in electronic combat. Intel analysts try to make sense of it all.

EW also includes radar spoofing, jamming and so on. Although granted, that's probably more aircraft based, EW ground forces may seek to interfere with ground-based radars in support of aircraft or may seek to disrupt or negate ground-based radar tracking ground vehicles. Although, I must admit, I know nothing about that kinda of thing.

Okay so looking over the 35Q MOS definition, it seems to be a hacker in a nutshell (unless I am reading into it incorrectly). So it seems that Sparks and Sgt. Hacker would fall into this MOS.
Also in regards to a Special Forces SOT-A it seems like going the 35P MOS is the only way to get accepted in. I am leaning more and more into Breaker following this route. |

In Argentina, there were 2 separate action figures of this character in the same year (1986)...
Sokerk v.1 (Grunt v.2 [in tan]) – Soldado Halcón ‘Hawk Soldier’ or ‘Falcon Soldier’ Sokerk v.2 (Argentina exclusive: dark-haired “Ripcord” in tan) – Soldado Halcón ‘Hawk Soldier’ or ‘Falcon Soldier’: FALCON SOLDIER Code Name: Sokerk File Name: Murphy, John SN: RA 935688750 Primary Military Specialty: Artillery Secondary Military Specialty: Combatant Grade: M5 Falcon Soldier he joined to the Heroic Commandos specializing in explosives and light weapons. Arms and disarms any firearm with precision and lightning speed. But his favorite ammunition is the grenade with which he can participate in his favorite place: in the middle of the action. Irritable and impatient [but] has an incalculable courage. Or (from the YoJoe forums): Falcon Soldier joins the Heroic Commandos team specializing in explosives and light weapons. He can arm and disarm any weapon with the precision and the speed of a thunder. But his preferred weapon is the grenade, because he can participate with it in his preferred place: The middle of the battle. He is a very impulsive, quick-tempered person and has an endless anger. N.B.: The first version of the figure came individually packaged, and the 2nd version (I believe) came with the Argentinian version of the classic "Falcon Glider"... |
