Grunt's "replacement" -
Front (Grunt v.1 - Argentina) – Frente de Batalla ‘Line of Battle’: LINE OF BATTLE [or FRONT OF BATTLE] Code Name: Front File Name: Rockwell, John T. Primary Military Specialty: Infantry Secondary Military Specialty: PR Official Inst. Grade: G-8 [A] Great fighter, this vanguard soldier’s mission is to open roads for other commandos in their fight against the enemy. Armed with his automatic rifle [he] does trenches and land mines. Endowed with great courage and quick reflexes, this front fighter knows [like] nobody how to command an armored assault. Qualified Expert in: M-14; M-16; M-1911A1 (Automatic Pistol); M-3A1 “Grease Gun”. Overwhelming, unstoppable in situations where you must combine intelligence, courage and uncommon strength. Is the right man for the almost impossible missions for security and inspiring confidence among his men. Is G-8 even a real pay-grade??? |

Yes. It is the Argentinian file-card for "Grunt" v.1 (straight arm) released in Argentina in 1984. Unlike most of the other characters released in 1984, who had the same names as their U.S. counterparts, "Grunt" was renamed "Front" and given a different file name, thus making him one of many unique characters released in Argentina.

Speaking of "unique characters" released in Argentina, things got pretty interesting in 1985 when a set of 6 unique characters (based on 1982 molds) were repainted, mixed and released as "new characters". Below is my first attempt at translation from the Spanish:
Shimik (Argentina exclusive: dark-skinned, mustached Grunt & Rock ‘n Roll composite) - Comando Estrategico ‘Strategic Commando / Command’: My translation: STRATEGIC COMMANDO Code Name: Shimik File Name: Ford, Jerome SN: RA 693648965 Primary Military Specialty: Intelligence Secondary Military Specialty: Electronic Artillery Grade: G-08 Alias: Cat Eyes. Nothing gets Cobra Commander so nervous as to hear the name of Shimik alias Cat Eyes. His eyesight is not only powerful, but super-intelligent. However the Cobra tries to hide or resort to “camouflage”, Shimik discovers [him] and with his light machinegun, signals his position for the Heroic Commandos who act. Although he has super powerful infrared goggles, to face them alone with his Cat Eyes amuses Shimik, protected in the shadows by the color of his skin. Or - YoJoe.com's translation = YOJOE.COM | Shimik Cardback (Argentina) : Alias CAT EYES. There's nothing that drives Cobra Commander so nervous like hearing the name of Shimik, alias CAT EYES. His sight is not only powerful, but also super-intelligent. No matter how much Cobras try to hide, Shimik discovers them with his machine gun, and provides the Heroic Commands with their position. Although Shimik has night vision goggles, he always has fun by facing Cobras face to face only with his Cat Eyes. He hides protected by the color of his skin among the shadows. Glenda [from the Welsh elements glân ‘pure, clean’ + da ‘good’] (Argentina exclusive: blonde “Scarlett” in chrome) – Copiloto de Helicopteros ‘Helicopter Co-pilot’:
My translation: HELICOPTER CO-PILOT Code Name: Glenda File Name: Mullighan, Jane SN: RA 666348210 Primary Military Specialty: Test Pilot Secondary Military Specialty: Intelligence Grade: E-7 As a girl of just six years, [she brought] astonishment to the people of her native village when under the watchful eye of her father, masterfully piloting one of the most sophisticated helicopters. When her father died heroically, Glenda swore to keep fighting for his noble cause. Today, [she] is [the] Air Intelligence Officer, Co-pilot of Helicopters in high-risk missions. She is the first woman who has been designated Master Instructor of Heroic Commandos. Or - YoJoe.com's translation = YOJOE.COM | Glenda Filecard (Argentina) : As a six year old child, she amazed all of her home town's inhabitants when she skillfully flew one of their most sophisticated helicopters under her father's supervision. When her father heroically died, GLENDA swore to continue fighting for his noble cause. Today, she is an Air Intelligence Officer and helicopter co-pilot in high risk missions. She is the first woman to ever become Master Instructor of Heroic Commands. Note: Glenda actually made a brief appearance in the DDP comics during the "Rise of the Red Shadows" arc. She was killed in action pretty quickly. For some reason she was on a LRRP mission, instead of in a helicopter where she belongs. Last edited by seaneley; 09-19-2016 at 08:35 PM.. |

How many Joes are qualified expert on the MAC-10? From what I understand, it's a hopelessly inaccurate weapon at anything other than point blank range (summed up here https://warisboring.com/the-mac-10-w...ecb#.ghopkhuhe among other places), so that must be an awfully forgiving weapons test. Breaker, Scarlett, Steeler and Mutt spring to mind, and in Yearbook 4 I seem to recall Torpedo mentioning he was carrying a suppressed Ingram, though it looked more like a Carl Gustav or even an M3. Anyone know of any others?

Breaker, Scarlett and Steeler are the only ones that specifically say they are Mac-10 qualified. Mutt is Mac-11.

SMGs I'd think the Joes would use would be: MP5K, Uzi/Mini Uzi, UMP in the 80s to 90s. In the 90s to '00s, MP5K or UMP. Present either the MP7 or the Vector. If they didn't just stick to the MP5. |
