Funny, the Brazilian card I found didn't mention his dog's name. I named the dog 'Lobo'...
A terrible battle, one the Commandos will never forget, occurred when the HQ was attacked. On the one hand the troops protecting barracks: on the other, only ONE man: Splinter! With his infernal mortars, his pistol, machine gun and rifle, this Cobra agent destroyed part of the headquarters, with great fanfare. Knowing his fame the Commandos do not underestimate their attack power and with total mobilization of troops managed to prevent further damage. “By imprudence, during a celebration, a young man was injured in a blast discovering the destructive force that the bombs have. Forced to use a fixed helmet, hiding half his face, he became the terrible Splinter who does not sing victory before or after the fight, because he already the celebrated during the battle!” Brazil HEAT-Viper |

From my understanding anyone can apply for JFO training, BUT there are apparently only about a 1000 slots and priority is given to soldiers with a 13F MOS. There are some 11B's that get thru but its dependent on ASVAB (???) test scores, nature of the soldier's unit and rank.
I can see guys like Grunt, Crazy Legs and Pathfinder getting thru. Duke most likely would get a higher priority being SF. Also noting your career progression of Duke - 11b > 18B > 18Z. I would throw in an 18F between the Weapons SGT and Operations SGT MOS's. One of the later filecards (I forget which) has Military Intelligence as an MOS so 18F makes a good fit. Same with Grunt, I also want to incorporate his 91F in there. I know in his civilian life he was a gunsmith apprentice but maybe he joined the army as a 91F because of his enjoyment of working on guns then decided to go to 11B upon re-enlistment. From there he excelled in all he did so his CO agreed on trying to get him enrolled in the JFO course. Would explain his "Small Arms Armorer, Infantry and Artillery Coordinator" military specialties. The Joes seem to have a lot of "small arms armorers" including Beach Head, Salvo, Blowtorch, Rumbler, Charbroil and of course Grunt and Duke. |

Ha! Yeah, I actually got it from the Yo Joe Brazil site. The name is in parentheses next to the pic. of the Junkyard toy. I thought maybe they were "in the know" or something, or that's their translation of Junkyard. I did not see the dog's official name anywhere on the package though...

"At present the U.S. Army does not have a Military Occupational Specialty of "armorer". At the unit level, an armorer duty position exists and is filled by soldiers holding the Unit Supply Specialist (92Y) MOS; these soldiers will have received some basic armorer training as part of their MOS training, and will often attend further armorer training when assigned to that duty position. Many of the traditional functions of an armorer are performed by a separate MOS, Small Arms Repairer (MOS 91F, formerly 45B), which performs higher levels of ordnance maintenance and repair." I stick with the time-frame of the '80s and '90s for the Joes, but even then, it seems that "small arms armorer" would not have been considered an official MOS (and should not have been considered as such on the file-cards), if I'm understanding the history here right? |

The indiscriminate killing of animals with the use of sophisticated weapons took the Commandos to a forest reserve. As suspected this was cruel Malignant, who was located by the firing of his long-range rifle. Soon, a terrible sound of battle dominated throughout the park, Malignant attacking with his machine gun and his laser pistol got a lot of work for the commandos. But he was easily overwhelmed and had to flee.
“Since childhood Malignant always liked living in the middle of mess and dirt and abusing animals. Enemy number one of the environment, he loves polluting the air and the waters, giving work to the Commandos while the Cobras act.” Brazil Toxo-Viper |

Got this off of Wikipedia (for what that's worth):

I thought the small arms armorer was the guy who checked out and
checked in the weapons before and after a mission. |

Back to the file-cards:
Cobra de Aço ‘Steel Cobra’ - O Mais Temido dos Cobras ‘The Most Feared of the Cobras’ His reputation for "duration" [i.e., being "tough"] has created problems with his own companions. Armed with his laser rifle, Steel Cobra often faces shootings without any protection. Steel Cobra usually says: "It is [yet] to be born to the Commando what will stop my steps." This fellow is indeed strange. He has a chrome "Snake-Eyes v.1" head and a yellow and black "Flash" body with a red Cobra logo on the chest. He comes with Flash's laser gun and nuclear backpack. Thus, I'm assuming he's the original "Laser-Viper", Flash's nemesis. However, his job description is simply weird: "the most feared of the Cobras." That's his job! That's what he does! Crazy... |

Went ahead and added "Brazilian Blowtorch":
Tocha ‘Torch’ (Blowtorch) – Lança-Chamas ‘Spear-Flames’ Expert in incendiary equipment for military purposes. Torch is considered a pioneer in the art of combat. And is not for less: the fire was used as a means of defense against even the bow and arrow. The targets targeted [or, pursued] by the powerful fire of Torch are the camps of Cobras. And many were the victorious attacks of Torch, that Cobra now learned the lesson: Wherever there is smoke, there is Torch, and the best is to retreat. |
