Who is that again?
I keep losing the YoJoe INternational page since it is somehow not linked through the normal clicks to get there. YOJOE.COM | International G.I.Joe - Brazil With some of the older figures I wonder if they were inspired by Roman and Greek deities? Not sure if they translate into anything, but Triton, and Athena for sure and Eletron and Furion just sound Greek Godlike? Although Furion is probably just a made up word. Dragon and Olhos de Fenix just imply more mythology in there naming convention. And as Cpt. said Alado is Crazylegs..... |

I am sure they meant him to be an indigenous tribesman, but the Phoenix is from Greek mythology. Once we get to Tiger-Force then they seem to channel that Indian heritage/Thunder cats.
I wonder how Brazilians feel about the Native Indians or how much Indian blood Brazilians typically carry? American Indian portrayal will commonly have a mystical aspect, like Spirit.

Brazil has a multi-cultural make-up like America or Britain. There are a lot of Portuguese and Spanish descended people, naturally, but there are also a lot of Black people, Japanese (I read up on that on Wiki in particular. Lot of Japanese migrated to Brazil back before WWII.) and other ethnicities. They're are a real melting-pot. The Average Brazilian is probably not descended from a Native tribe, though.

Came early to the group of scouts and always saved his friends from dangerous situations. At home Paramedic loved fixing things. Repairing clogged sinks, broken keys exchanged, wiring sockets, saved up old appliances. His fame grew in the neighbourhood as a saviour. Until, one day, he knew that the commandos were in need of a brave man, intended to rescue comrades in any situation. Today he belongs to Tiger Force, and the commandos know that there is no danger that he did not face, to save a fellow!

Another peculiarity is Doc's code name: S.O.S. In English it means Save Our Ship (Salvar Nosso Novio) or Save Our Souls (Salve Nossas Almas), so shouldn't the Portuguese version be spelled S.N.N or S.N.A?

SOS is internationally recognised as a distress call, no matter the language, same as Mayday which comes from the French 'M'aidez' meaning 'Help Me'. That's why it's May Day and not 'Whitsun', 'Good Friday' or 'Labour Day'.

Brutamontes was born with 4 kilos and 500 grams. A big baby. Swallowed three bottles in a breath. When he grew up, turned into a thug. Challenged everyone at school and beat everyone! He ate three plates of beans and rice, practiced swimming, football, dumbbells and pole vault, every day. But had also a heart the size of a tram. Enlisted in the commandos to fight evil. And the strength and knocking out all the Cobras passing by!

Triton is Greek 'of the third', and the name of a weapon and a god. Athena is Greek 'the goddess' Eletron is Portuguese for 'electron' (the only name that is translatable from the Portuguese) Furion is made up, but probably denotes something like 'the furious one', i.e. "Short-Fuze" Dragon and Falcon need no explanation. |

After reviewing "Corrosion's" file-card earlier in the thread, I came up with a little different translation and order, based on the Yo Joe Brazil website:
Enjoy! Corrosão (“Eco Force” Dee-Jay) – Força Eco He is able to penetrate any means not contaminated for plunder and makes it prejudicial for health. No one knows how the corrosive effects [are] caused by the chemical or electrochemical action. That is why he never takes off his helmet [of] protection, super-equipped with detection sensors and antenna-emitting defrag-mind-carrier waves. "As a child, Corrosion enjoyed preparing corrosive solutions in your chemistry labs. After [or, then], leave the city testing its "products" in garbage cans, grills, gates and even in cars! Nobody understood why all rusted so early…" |
