My mind keeps wandering to the 12' Hall of Fame figures. In 1993 Hasbro released the RED BERETs and the GREEN BERETs figures using generic "Grunt" action figures as the specialists. So, I'm thinking G.I. Joe could have a branch of both groups (like Star Trek "red shirts")...
What I'm actually wondering is, if the Joes had a branch of each, what would be their specialties? I mean, there must be a difference between the two? The file-cards were kind of generic... |

Where did you come up with the following Joes as being part of the 75th Rangers:
Repeater Muskrat Desert Wolf Tunnel Rat Sidetrack Dart Crankcase Skydive Hawk If I remember correctly Tunnel Rat, Crankcase and Dart's filecards state they went to Ranger School, not necessarily served in the 75th (unless I missed a filecard someplace). Skydive states he was an instructor at the Ranger School. Does one have to serve in the 75th before becoming an instructor? I thought the two entities were separate? The 75th Rangers have their RASP school (which is separate from Ranger School). Also a general questions....is the Ranger Creed used by soldiers in the 75th Regiment or by anyone who has graduated Ranger School? Repeater (v1) G.I. Joe Action Figure - YoJoe Archive Desert Wolf and Sidetrack both are called Rangers on their filecards. DESERT WOLF (v1), YOJOE.COM Sidetrack (v2) G.I. Joe Action Figure - YoJoe Archive |

I mean a Green Beret means only one thing in the US military and that isn't something the Joes would be handing out. Same goes for Red Berets. Does the army still allow Airborne units to sport the Red Beret? Air Force Combat Control Team wear the Red. The one definitive feature is the grappling hook for the Red. I guess you could make guys whatever you want with those. I suppose we could try to figure out how the Joes would use their Green Shirts or Steel Brigaders?

I can't really speak to those sets. It doesn't quite fit in with the rest of the 4 in line.

Joe could have a similar structure - a large body of "generic" Rangers/Green Berets/SEALs/Marines, with a smaller select high readiness team, all under one commander. |

Going back a number of pages now there was some discussion over flying skills and Joe. I think it revolved around Flint and where his Flight Warrant experience came in. Here are a couple of things of interest:
Delta absorbed SEASPRAY as their flying squadron (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SEASPRAY; https://books.google.ca/books?id=oWi...adron&f=false; and p. 67 of this doc http://www.dtic.mil/doctrine/doctrin...y/justcaus.pdf which states "Within three to five days, even if Noriega were not captured, General Thurman recommended redeployment of these special operations units: one squadron of Army Special Mission Units, two assault teams from SEAL Team SIX, elements of Task Force 160, and one Ranger battalion. SEAL Team TWO and an aviation squadron from the Army Special Mission Units had left that day" - note that the ref to the SMU aviation sqn is distinct from reference to the 160th (Night Stalker) elements.) Meanwhile, SEAL Team 6 trained some of its operators to fly: https://sofrep.com/52127/watch-devgr...s-seal-team-6/ So I can see Flint as a guy who actually went from an SF Group (having been an Engineer Sgt in a HALO Team, then likely to a CIF Company) to Delta (thus explaining the hostage rescue situations) to flying in Delta's aviation squadron.* --- * just don't look too closely at all the dates . . . |

I see Green Shirts filling in the Support Roles needed by the Joes. Depending on whether the Joes use Artillery and Armor those roles expand.
Steel Brigade seems more like the Joes Security element. Perhaps like a Ranger company taking an airport. Run patrols outside the fence. Urban assaults, Mechanized Recon, amphibious invasions.

All of these would be speculation.
Although Ranger School is separate I would not treat it as so. Skydive Crankcase -Because he got to go to SAS school. he must be a Ranger Ranger Tunnel-Rat -Because he went to Grenada -Only Rangers and 82 Airborne went to Grenada Repeater - He wears a Ranger tab on his hat. I see that as a slight of hand to promote his Rangerness. Do non-75th Rangers wear a tab on their BDU lids? I don't know. I would assume they were it on their Dress uniforms and maybe their Work BDUs. But if it ain't your unit then why wear it so prominently on your head? I think under current grooming standards its a violation to have anything but Rank on your Patrol Cap. Maybe this is why he never gets promoted? http://www.apd.army.mil/pdffiles/p670_1.pdf One picture I have seen of this not being the case was back in 1986 when I guess you could. This guy is a Ranger BTW. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped..._excercise.jpg The others I don't know. I don't have anything that would lead me to believe one way or the other that they are part of the 75th. THey are all listed as Ranger school grads though. They have a Ranger feel to me.. Muskrat, and Dart seem like natural Rangers. Sidetrack and Desert Wolf are listed as RANGER as their role on the top of their filecard. Hawk is a mistake he could be anything though? He could probably go to the bottom of the list with Clutch and Alpine and Lady Jaye Quote:
Well Repeater has the Ranger patch on his cap.
