Do you have your Sabre Squadrons structured out? I am still working on mine. I have so far:
Squadron Commander (O-5) Squadron Sergeant (E-9) Squadron Operations Officer (maybe filled by a CW-2 or CW-3?) Squadron Communicator (E-6) And to fill out the HQ element on my Squadron I was thinking of the following billets: Supply Sergeant Armorer CBRN Sergeant (or just attach CBRN operatives from my Support Squadron) Squadron Operations Sergeant Any other billets that sound feasible? OMG a Troy drive-by LOL |

Long-time no see Troy. Stop in and stay awhile.
Can I ask about the 1/11/0/2 designations?

It's 1 Captain, 11 enlisted Marines, mostly E5s and up, and 2 Navy corpsman--SARCs.

Navy Officers, I believe. I used to think it was warrant officers but they're included in the first column.

Hey guys. Didn't have a lot of time to post here in recent days, but that didn't stop me from thinking about all things G.I. Joe.
Anyway, I'm having a major rethink of the organizational stuff I'd been writing about here of late. What follows below is my (typically) long-winded reasoning: Why G.I. Joe? |

That has been one of my biggest frustrations as well, where does the Joe team fit in? What is their mission?
My own Joe-verse is more along the lines of the SAS and Delta, meaning no aircraft, artillery and tanks. I either "fired" certain characters (such as Slipstream) or somehow integrated them into a more SOF-capable billet (such as Grand Slam being a Joint Fires Observer). Some of the ideas I have had are the following: A joint-task force made up of elements from all four branches. Maybe along the lines of a Marine Expeditionary Unit (which would have aircraft, artillery and tank elements). Probably the easiest way to go without sacrificing any characters. The disadvantage is certain characters may not have the team bonding that is portrayed in the comics. For example would a SEAL like Torpedo and an infantry soldier like Grunt operate on a mission together? Grunt would be part of a platoon that maybe does force protection for a SEAL team to capture a HVT but that's about it. Some may think this is a minor issue but I enjoy the integration of different military backgrounds into a small cohesive unit such as the Joes. Another scenario (one that has been brought up recently) is maybe the Joe-team is a new Sabre Squadron within Delta. Maybe they are tasked with using experimental weapons in actual combat? But these would just be the "shooters" (aka Operators) so where does this leave the Intel and Support Joes? Probably with Delta's Support Squadron. A new Tier 1 unit that is tasked with weapons proliferation (versus traditional hostage rescue that Delta typically covers). Although I think I read someplace that DEVGRU deals with weapons proliferation. This would have them run into Destro's MARS organization as well. Another idea I had was for a Tier 1 organization (again)....only this would would integrate women in it as well as sort of a test bed to see if an integrated SOF unit could operate effectively. This would be relevant in today's military when it was announced all restrictions would be lifted for woman. Only issue I see is if the US Government wanted to take out a HVT would they use an untested Tier 1 unit such as the Joes versus more established one such as DEVGRU or Delta? For example would they have entrusted taking down Osama Bin Laden with the Joe team? So obviously there would be a lot more competition and resentment towards the new Tier 1 unit. |
