Hey guys,
It's been a loooooooong time since I last poked my head into the HISStank forums. Hope everyone's doing fine. Here's a little sneak peek at something I've been kicking around off-and-on these past few years. |

Wow! Long time no see Zuludelta. This looks pretty good. You have Joes already plugged in for these roles?

Anyway, that chart is part of a document I'm writing in the style of the yearly Special Operations Forces Reference Manual published by the Joint Special Operations University Press. It'll have stuff in it like sections on selection and training, that sort of stuff. Don't know when I'll get around to finishing it, though. Might be another four years, ha ha. |

Very cool Z, looks similar to the way MARSOC Raider companies are set up theses days.
Really good to see you alive and well and back on the 'Tank. You have been missed |

Yep, the "enabled Marine Special Operations Company" provided the inspiration for the structure, although the individual "Joint Special Operations Teams" are patterned after a reduced SEAL platoon in terms of personnel composition. If you ask me, any attempt to create a self-contained, self-sustaining "land, sea, and air" style organization would do well to take after a Marine Corps tasking. They're really the only service that does these company-sized organizational groupings with extensive semi-organic combat support and combat service support assets. Nominally larger services like the Army and the Navy tend to rely on higher echelon, dedicated combat support and combat service support units for SOF groupings below the battalion level.

And here's an example page showing the staffing requirements tables for the organization. I was originally going to list stuff like ASI and SQI requirements (for Army personnel) and time-in-service requirements and all sorts of obsessive details, but I realized that was a bridge too far, even for me. The seams between the different services' personnel classifications and form data only line up so much.
Anyway, the whole concept behind the organization is that this notional GI Joe team leverages the best personnel for the job, regardless of branch of service, in such a way that it reduces the individual skills qualification load for the organization so that it can focus on training for proficiency and interoperability. So in the example below, I've got GI Joe's EOD specialists as being sourced from the Navy, as Navy EOD Technicians are pretty much trained to SOF standards right out of the gate as far as being dive- and airborne-qualified is concerned. |

Hello Zuludelta, I just wanted to take a moment and thank you for the incredible work you have done over the years. This thread and your work were the reasons I came back to post on this site. It took me months to read every post in this thread and your concept art thread but was definitely worth it in the end.

Welcome back. Interesting work as always. I'm surprised the team leaders and asst. team leaders are both O-3's.

I was wondering about that as well. I have never seen a breakdown of a MARSOC unit or a SEAL team as far as ranks go. Do others use two Captains? I can see the usefulness though as I would guess one would be rotating out and one rotating in.
