Yeah, Breaker is definitely a hybrid of sorts. He is essentially a RATELO with signal training, but what MOSs would be most suitable?. Given that his file card says Signal Corps, I'd say at least MOS 25C Radio-Operator Maintainer. As for Intelligence, maybe 35P Cryptologic Linguist or 35S Signal Collector/Analyst. Special Forces has specific courses for signal Intel and so forth. In fact, the recon course is open to 35 MOSs so that means you can have intel guys in the field working alongside Special Forces.

My first Joe and least favorite for a long time. (the figure not the character) I pretty much see it the way you see it though, but I have both Dial-Tone and Breaker as special forces communications sergeants.
I think essentially all these guys are radio operators, but at some point the story needed them to be more and they now serve multiple rolls. Except Sneek-Peak and Recoil. But guys like Scoop, And more recently Hard-Drive and Hi-Tech have to serve multiple rolls. I use to try and make sure every team had a radio operator. Falcon, and Lifeline with their backpacks. White-out and Topside. Topson now too. I suppose Blaster as well, but I admit I am not that familiar with microwave technology in relation to Comms.

the latest British Strategic Defence and Security Review apparently included plans for a new Special Forces Communications Regiment. The article in the paper I read was a bit short on specifics, but since 18 Signals Regiment (UKSF) already exists as part of the Royal Corps of Signals, I think it's supposed to be some kind of SIGINT SF unit. The article mentioned the operators would work with UKSF forces scanning for enemy comms, disrupting and/or tracking mobile phone signals, emails, etc. and also controlling mini UAVs.
An interesting development and possible of interest to some for anyone with a 'day after tomorrow' setting... |

Those three MOS's you posted also seem in line with what Breaker would be trained in. I also see 18E Communications Sergeant and his filecard states "Infantry". So maybe starts as an 11B, is assigned a radio in an Infantry platoon then changes MOS's after his initial enlistment is over? Quote:

Yeah, they'd most likely be on an SOT-A. I could see Breaker eventually going 18E. That would be the best career path for him. I always felt that Hama should've made him a 13F since FOs are very important assets for calling in air strikes, which is also a skill mentioned in his file card, and we never had a distinct FO (although it does pop up from time to time as an SMOS on some cards; see Crazylegs) but alas signals seems pervasive among most of the comm Joes.

Pathfinder and Grunt also come to mind, but once again like you indicated they are shown as SMOS. However I have been making my artillery guys such as Grand Slam, Thunder and Long Range (v1) 13F's (like Zuludelta did). It just seems like that MOS would be more practical than say a 13B (Cannon Crewmember) on a team like the Joe's. In addition they could also serve as RTO guys since they would be familiar with radio's and such. |

Sort of off topic, sort of not . . . I'm tinkering with a story of a Joe armoured raiding force - something to do a quick penetration into an enemy's exposed flank. I'm looking for a double check of the layout, which kinda sorta aligns with some of the orbat discussions of the past. Here's what I've got:
Command Major Storm (CC/TF Commander) + Windchill (Gnr) + Hot Seat (Dvr) - Mauler Reconnaissance Rapid Fire (Recce Commander) - driving a Crossfire Rumbler - driving a Crossfire Crank Case - AWE Striker + Sneak Peak? Recoil? Zap? Assault Force Thunderwing (CC/ Assault Force Commander), Heavy Duty (Gnr), Rampage (Dvr) - Mauler Cold Front (CC/ fire control technician) + Back Stop (gnr) + Heavy Metal (Dvr) - Mauler Cross Country (CC) + Frostbite (Gnr) + Wild Card (Dvr) - Mauler Overwatch/Security Steeler (Overwatch Commander/TF XO)- Armadillo, towing twin battle gun (Rock n Roll) Cover Girl - Wolverine Clutch - VAMP + Rampart (passenger - Air Defence), towing Coastal Air Defender Skid Mark - Desert Fox; Backblast (passenger - for air defence) Short Fuze + Downtown - VAMP or a Desert Fox with 2 81mm mortars, or maybe towing a 120mm mortar https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mortie...Mod%C3%A8le_F1 Engineer Tollbooth driving the Bridgelayer, towing a MCLC https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mine-clearing_line_charge Steam Roller driving an HMEV HMEV Backhoe Loader | Military-Today.com Support Recovery Vehicle - Dodger (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M88_Recovery_Vehicle) APC (Supply) - Armadillo (the guy, not the vehicle . . . Support Commander) + Barricade; towing a fuel bowser APC (Maintenance) - Bazooka + Dial Tone (Comms) + Tripwire; towing Road Pig (edit: that should be Road Toad!) APC - Ambulance- Sideswipe (Medic) + Stretcher (Medic) Can anyone think of characters I've missed who might be better suited to this kind of mission than those I have? Similarly with vehicles? I considered having them drive a mish mash of MOBATs and Maulers and HAVOCs and so on, and may go back to that, but I think a little homogeneity might be good, and plus find an opportunity to use a couple of lesser known vehicles/playsets. For the reconnaissance team, I'm undecided on the one dismount, whether he should be a pure recce guy or be able to do more specialised engineer reconnaissance. Suggestions and ideas are welcomed. A lot to take in.
I'm a little unsure of the maintenance team. Bazooka, Tripwire, Dial-Tone seems an odd group for maintenance but I am not sure the function. Cover-Girl and Clutch may be of use as mechanics? Other Motor vehicle guys: Rollbar, Cannonball, Long-Range (Garcia), and Blocker who is listed as Mechanized Recon. Knockdown may help with the Anti-aircraft role. What about some of the other Artillery guys if you needed more or extra gunners. (major Barrage, Thunder, Long-Range (Fritz), Sub-Zero since you have Arctic guys mixed in) Fast-Draw and Mirage Salvo? Mercer may be of use for your dismount guy? Rampage? The Spitfire driver/Beachhead lookalike?
