I thought I'd share my Troop structure with you guys. I have 2 Joe verses. One is simply the named Joes, no outside sources (COPS, Bronze Bombers, etc) and the other I call my expanded 'verse where I use custom characters etc.
The following is my Mountain / Arctic Assault Troop from the simplified verse. Each 20 man Troop is divided into 5 Four man sections; HQ Section, x 2 Assault Sections, a Maneuver Support Section (Machine Gunners, Anti-Tank) and a Recce / Sniper. Each section can operate independently but when operating as a single troop (Raids, DA Missions) similar to a Platoon. HQ Section Troop Commander - MAJ Sub Zero Troop SGT - OR8 Big Ben Communications Chief - GYSGT Dee-Jay (Made him a Marine) Medical Chief - HMC Boulder (Made him a SARC) Assault Section 1 Section Leader / Mountain Leader - SFC Blizzard Communicator / Joint Fires Observer - SSG Hit n Run Breacher / OSV OPR - SSG Windchill I Master Mariner / Arctic Medic - HM1 (SWCC) Ice Storm II (Need a new name) Assault Section 2 Section / Mountain Leader - SFC Alpine Demolitions / Tactical Coxswain - SSGT Ice Storm I (MARSOC Raider) OSV OPR / Mechanic - SSG Frostbite Radio OPR / Raven OPR - ITC1 (SEAL) Risco (also Dive Supervisor) Maneuver Support Section Section Leader - SFC Iceberg OSV OPR / ADA Spec - SSG Avalanche (also Combat Tracker) HVY Weapons Spec - SSG Snow Storm HVY Weapons Spec - SSG Cold Front (also Pack Animal Pack Master) Recce / Sniper Section Master Sniper - SFC Snow Job Sniper / Pathfinder - SSGT Red Mack (also Mountain Medical Spec) SR Sniper - SSG White Out Sniper / Arctic Medic - SSG Windchill II (Chill Blaine) OSV OPR - Oversnow Vehicle Operator Master Mariner - Select team of Special Boat Operators (4 in a team) who are trained to operate all kinds of Civilian Vessels Love to know what the rest of you think Nice set up! I was pondering whether to increase my Troop strength to 19-20 men. I was going to keep my 4-man HQ but maybe make three 5-man Teams instead of either three 4-man or two six-man. Since my Troops do both recon and direct action I keep going back and forth. I hear 5-6 men is ideal for room clearing but the SAS seems to do okay with 4-man Patrols performing it. I have also heard six men are ideal for long range recon missions because of the amount of equipment that is required to be carried. But once again the SAS seems to do fine with 4-men so I am conflicted. |

Storm Front is Genius! Thank you!
Risco is the Argentinian version of Alpine. http://www.yojoe.com/international/a...arg-risco2.jpg I using any foreign variants as long as they have a different file name and are separate characters, at least that's the plan in the simplified verse. In my expanded 'verse, anything goes For some reason, I was under the impression his code name was Everest.... |

Yeah, the fan-fic are continuations of the comics stories, so Brekhov et al died in Sierra Gordo. Iron Bear's CO. The backstory I invented for Wong was that he's the son of a Chinese migrant father and a Russian mother, living on a farm in Siberia. His cowboy behaviour is because they used to pick up US tv from Alaska and he became obsessed with Westerns.
The thing with the Soviet nationals is, they might be from a SSR but live in the Russian SFSR or they might be serving in the Red Army when the Wall came down and wound up staying in the Russian Army instead of going 'home' or they might be ethnic Russians who emigrated 'back' to Russia - sorta like the Seps in eastern Ukraine, but y'know moved to Russia. my background to the Guard is that they were formed as a WarPac unit, but poor standards meant they only ended up with 6 troops. After the collapse of Communism, the Russians decided to increase the size and put Iron Bear in charge to smooth over international co-operation issues with CIS states and then they really went after the best and the brightest in the new Russian Army to staff the Guard. It takes them a good 3 years to reach that strength of numbers though. I have met a few Russians amd worked with some who were ethnically Azeri or Kazakh but moved to Moscow in their youth and identified as Russian. You aren't really allowed to just move to another city. Although I assume military families would be expected to move from time to time. So what do you do with Diana being Czech?

she's just stayed with the unit after loyally serving them for so long. she's a kinda special case.
I'm working on building a wikia site for my fan-fic, but I'm having to go back and re-read my stories before I post them as I've spotted mistakes in some. otherwise, you can search Joe Canuck for 'fan-fic' and the threads that result will be mine. |

Everest As a child, Everest was already climbing mountains to see the scenery from above. Thanks to agility and persistence, overcoming bigger obstacles was only a matter of time. He always wanted to come out on top, which led him to join the Action Commandos. Risco Arthur Gray joined the Army shortly after High School. He was nicknamed ‘Risco’ for his love of climbing and didn’t hesitate to choose this as his military speciality. Tenacious and fearless, this Commando has climbed the highest peaks in the world on super-secret missions to install sophisticated technology for satellite base stations. |

A bit off topic but has anyone else thought about using Spearhead as Working Dog Handler? Maybe have Max as a dog instead of a bobcat (which was a lame animal idea to begin with). Spearhead is one of those characters that has been hard to place. With him as a WDH I could place him in my WDH section along with Mutt, Law and Widescope.

I have never thought about Spearhead like that but it makes total sense, if Max was a Dog. Obviously Bobcats are not working animals, but I wonder what the designers had in mibd? I would assume he would be good for tracking, and Spearhead out front would be able to lead the way. The guy is a total open book.
I wonder if bobcats have ever been domesticated like cheetahs from some Asian kingdoms.

That's a good question about bobcats. I am going to do some Googling on that.
Also good use of Spearhead as a tracker. I know some people are using the Combat Tracking Team concept. I am as well but only as ad-hoc teams, not ones that are permanently assigned. So maybe use teams like Spirit and Mutt, Spearhead and Law, and Dart and Widescope as CCT's. Each team would also have 2-3 other Joes for security. |

I use Spearhead as an infantry guy in my collection. He's pointman for fireteam 1, with Falcon, Footloose and Hit&Run. In my fan-fic, he's point-man for the GI Joe SF team which comprises Captain Falcon, Footloose, Hit&Run, Beach Head, Recoil, Spearhead and Alpha Dog (a former Delta operator who was in Steel Brigade). Max is retired to a good home.

Do you just have seven people in your SF team or is there more? I didn't know if you structured it like a 12-man SF ODA or not. |
