I think Hasbro was smart to leave any overt references to religion out of the Joe line. Joe fans argue about rolled up sleeves on action figures, the last thing we need is a holy war in the Joe fan community over whether the Joe team's chaplain should have been a priest, a minister, or a rabbi.
I could see Medic/Chaplin... Why not????? Remember also, in the cartoon, Lifeline did not use a gun.....

A Chaplin, in the military, is to know all religion. I'm religious so I dont really see a problem with it. Do you remember MASH? Father Mokayhe (? spelling). I'm not catholic, but I didnt care.

In a perfect world, having a chaplain and having to designate a religion wouldn't matter, but the world isn't perfect and there are people that would just jump at the chance to get up on their soapbox and call out the Joe line for religious intolerance (which it wouldn't be, but you know they'd call it that).
I'd like to hear Oliver's thoughts on this, since he is a chaplain in the armed forces.

It's not just the South, though. Wyoming only has 1. Alaska has 1. I think the Dakotas have 1 each. I just think we should even that out - even if it's just a vehicle driver, it's still cool to have a Joe from your home State. Always good to hear from a fellow Southerner. |

Yes, I realize that in the actual military, chaplains are there for the spiritual guidance of all soldiers, regardless of their individual religions. That's fine. But if Hasbro created a chaplain character, that character's file card would have to specify what religion he or she belonged to. There would be no way around that. That would cause two problems. It would bring religion into a line of action figures where, I'm sorry, but it has no place, and secondly, it could potentially alienate the people who don't belong to the particular religion the chaplain belonged to.
The point is, it would be trouble Hasbro doesn't need.

I can't think of any others that are from WA... You know, it think it would be interesting to actually map out where all the Joes & Cobras are from... so we could show some state pride. I'm hurting here in MI. The only two I know from here are Stalker and road Pig. Way to hit the stereotypes... a gang member from Detroit and a thick necked brute from goblu(e) Michigan. I guess it could be worse; I'm from TX, which of course means I talk like Wild Bill... Thanks Hama!

D'oh! It is Collierville. Cordova, Collierville. It's all the same! lol
I think Hama must have just closed his eyes and pointed at a location, because there was nothing in Collierville back in '87. As a kid in '87 I don't think I had even heard of Collierville. lol And Med-Alert is from Nashville. Statistically, there are usually more Southerners in the military. I don't know how that applies to the Special Forces. You would think with more Southerners in the military, that would naturally mean more in Special Forces, but that may not be the case. Either way, we need more Southerners on the team, and they don't need to be stereotypes like Cross-Country. Tennessee, The Volunteer State, only has 3 Joes calling it home? No matter what branch of the military you're in you're going to have at least 10 Tennessee boys in your unit. Military jobs are the only jobs available around here (plus, you know, tradition and all that stuff).
