I use Chuckles in a CD team with a Warrant officer as the team leader. CID teams are essentially detectives for the military. They're not organic to regular brigades or units. They are assigned by CID Command to investigate criminal activity within the military. CID agents can go undercover but what Chuckles does in the comics is more in line with intelligence collection and infiltrating the enemy. Not really a job for CID. They might investigate a rape or murder or drug activity or war crime committed by military personnel.

In my Joe-verse I was going to have the Joes eventually encounter MARS. MARS would sell weapons to some countries then use their Iron Grenadier agent to covertly work with that nation's rebel group to procure the weapons. Arbco (a private military company) would then contract with that nation to get the weapons back. Of course Arbco/Cobra and MARS would be in cahoots the whole time as this is how they make their money. Would a CID agent maybe investigate a foreign weapons manufacturer if it involved a risk to an allied nation? Or would that be CIA or military intelligence? I guess I am not sure what restrictions MI and CID would have in regards to what they are supposed to investigate. |

CID Does seem rather out of place for the Joes. However I think it was just meant to be his cover. I believe he is former military but he's actually working for the agency. The Joes all know it. He comes and goes as he pleases. It would make more sense for him to be a Warrant Officer though. But realistically he would probably be 0-5 equivalent. I mean if there was such a unit like GIJoe the CIA would be using them to go after targets. Chuckles is just the liason. Maybe Sure-Fire is undercover as well. Mace, Bullet-Proof, Bullhorn and Rook all round out the group.

On Chuckles, I can see a couple of reasons to have him as CID. One is to keep an eye on a shadowy SOF unit that has minimal oversight. Even with the most patriotic soldiers there might be temptation to try to get away with something.
The other reason is to conduct investigations with a counter-intelligence angle on other units that might have soldiers funneling info/weapons etc to nefarious groups (like Cobra or Mars). After all, a soldier who has dabbled in something illegal becomes a soft blackmail target for a group like Cobra. |

That's a good point too Lowtech. Maybe he can be both. He just seems too shady to be looking into other people's shadiness.
There is also Counter intelligence special agents 35L, 351L, 35E. Who are in charge of investigating crimes of national security, such as acts of terrorism, treason. This almost seems like a better role. Lets face it, no one likes internal affairs.

Ha. You are no doubt correct. Has anyone got their Big Ben fig yet. I saw one on ebay with his updated Filecard, which mentions Action Force membership, but also I notice is has a tag from Captain "Eagle"Buckingham about his character. (Major Eagle in my verse) I wonder if this will be coming one day along with Skip?

I was taking a break from Joes when Big Ben was first released. Had the bug again by the time v3 came out. He's always been in my top picks.
The club version does him justice but I wish they had used a modified form of the "resolute" legs in order to keep the spats/ gaiters |

Hmm...unless the Joe team has a few shady characters it seems Chuckles would not be needed at all.

USACIDC concentrates efforts on serious crimes, such as wrongful deaths, controlled substance offenses, theft...fraud, sexual misconduct, assaults, cyber crimes, and other national security offenses. The USACIDC also conducts sensitive and special investigations involving senior Army officials and those associated with classified programs. ... USACIDC units investigate offenses against U.S. forces or property committed in an area of operations. CID groups are strategic-level subordinate units to USACIDC and provide mission command, strategic planning, and supervision of subordinate CID battalions. CID groups are staffed with officers, warrant officers, enlisted Soldiers, and DA civilians... CID battalions usually support a corps or division AOR. CID elements are operational units that are subordinate to a CID battalion... CID elements are commanded by an Army warrant officer, typically a chief warrant officer three or four. The element commander, referred to as the special agent in charge, or the detachment commander supervises all aspects of the element... The special agent in charge will have a varied number of team chiefs (normally warrant officers) with subordinate warrant officers or enlisted special agents who conduct investigations. Organic to every CID element is an element noncommissioned officer, who is identified as the detachment sergeant and is the senior enlisted special agent in the element.
